"Therefore it shall comeabout when the LORDyour Godhas givenyou restfrom allyour surroundingenemies,in the landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou as an inheritanceto possess,you shall blotout the memoryof Amalekfrom underheaven;you must not forget.
They destroyedthe remnantof the Amalekiteswhoescaped,and have livedthereto thisday.
AftertheseeventsKingAhasueruspromotedHaman,the sonof Hammedathathe Agagite,and advancedhim and establishedhis authorityoverallthe princeswho[were] with him.
So they hangedHamanon the gallowswhichhe had preparedfor Mordecai,and the king'sangersubsided.
Then the LORDsaidto Moses,"Writethisin a bookas a memorialand reciteit to Joshua,that I will utterlyblotout the memoryof Amalekfrom underheaven."
and he said,"The LORDhas sworn;the LORDwill have waragainst Amalekfrom generationto generation."
And He said,"My presenceshall go[with you], and I will giveyou rest."
for you have not as yetcometo the restingplaceand the inheritancewhichthe LORDyour Godis givingyou.
his corpseshall not hangall nighton the tree,but you shall surelyburyhim on the sameday(for he who is hangedis accursedof God),so that you do not defileyour landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou as an inheritance.
"Then it shall be, whenyou enterthe landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou as an inheritance,and you possessit and livein it,
"Then I commandedyou at that time,saying,The LORDyour Godhas givenyou thislandto possessit; allyou valiantmenshall crossoverarmedbeforeyour brothers,the sonsof Israel.
LetMe alone,that I may destroythem and blotout their namefrom underheaven;and I will makeof you a nationmightierand greaterthanthey.'
So Joshuatookthe wholeland,according to allthat the LORDhad spokento Moses,and Joshuagaveit for an inheritanceto Israelaccording to their divisionsby their tribes.Thus the landhadrestfrom war.
Now it cameabout aftermanydays,whenthe LORDhad givenrestto Israelfrom alltheir enemieson everyside,and Joshuawas old,advancedin years,
"You shall marcharoundthe city,allthe menof warcirclingthe cityonce.You shall dosofor sixdays.
"Therefore the sonsof Israelcannotstandbeforetheir enemies;they turn[their] backsbeforetheir enemies,for they have becomeaccursed.I will not be with you anymoreunlessyou destroythe thingsunderthe banfrom your midst.
He actedvaliantlyand defeatedthe Amalekites,and deliveredIsraelfrom the handsof those who plunderedthem.
Now Davidand his menwentup and raidedthe Geshuritesand the Girzitesand the Amalekites;for they were the inhabitantsof the landfrom ancienttimes,as you cometo Shureven as faras the landof Egypt.
