saying,"Whenwill the newmoonbe over,So that we may sellgrain,And the sabbath,that we may openthe wheat[market], To makethe bushelsmallerand the shekelbigger,And to cheatwith dishonestscales,
He said,"Whywill you goto him today?It is neithernewmoonnorsabbath."And she said,"[It will be] well."
"But as for you, speakto the sonsof Israel,saying,You shall surelyobserveMy sabbaths;for [this] is a signbetweenMe and you throughout your generations,that you may knowthat I am the LORDwho sanctifiesyou.
A false balanceis an abominationto the LORD,But a justweightis His delight.
A justbalanceand scalesbelong to the LORD;Allthe weightsof the bagare His concern.
Differingweightsare an abominationto the LORD,And a false scaleis not good.
"Bringyour worthlessofferingsnolonger,Incenseis an abominationto Me. Newmoonand sabbath,the callingof assemblies--I cannotendureiniquityand the solemnassembly.
"Ifbecauseof the sabbath,you turnyour footFrom doingyour [own] pleasureon My holyday,And callthe sabbatha delight,the holy[day] of the LORDhonorable,And honorit, desistingfrom your [own] ways,From seekingyour [own] pleasureAnd speaking[your own] word,
A merchant,in whose handsare false balances,He lovesto oppress.
And Ephraimsaid,"SurelyI have becomerich,I have foundwealthfor myself; In allmy laborsthey will findin me Noiniquity,which[would be] sin."
You shall havejustbalances,justweights,a justephah,and a justhin;I am the LORDyour God,whobroughtyou out from the landof Egypt.
I said,"Whatis it?" And he said,"Thisis the ephahgoingforth."Again he said,"Thisis their appearancein allthe land
Then he said,"Thisis Wickedness!"And he threwher downinto the middleof the ephahand castthe leadweighton its opening.
"You also say,My, howtiresomeit is!' And you disdainfullysniffat it," saysthe LORDof hosts,"and you bringwhat was takenby robberyand [what is] lameor sick;so you bringthe offering!Should I receivethat from your hand?"saysthe LORD.
"Also in the dayof your gladnessand in your appointedfeasts,and on the first[days] of your months,you shall blowthe trumpetsoveryour burntofferings,and overthe sacrificesof your peaceofferings;and they shall be as a reminderof you beforeyour God.I am the LORDyour God."
Thereforenooneis to act as your judgein regard to foodordrinkorin respectto a festivalora new moonora Sabbathday--
So Davidsaidto Jonathan,"Behold,tomorrowis the newmoon,and I ought to sitdownto eatwith the king.But letme go,that I may hidemyself in the fielduntilthe thirdevening.
