a devout manand one who fearedGodwith allhis household,and gavemanyalmsto the [Jewish] peopleand prayedto Godcontinually.
Nowthere were Jewslivingin Jerusalem,devoutmenfrom everynationunderheaven.
And there was a manin Jerusalemwhosenamewas Simeon;and thismanwas righteousand devout,lookingfor the consolationof Israel;and the HolySpiritwas upon him.
Thereforethussaysthe LORDin regardto Jehoiakimthe sonof Josiah,kingof Judah,"They will not lamentfor him: 'Alas,my brother!'or, 'Alas,sister!'They will not lamentfor him: 'Alasfor the master!'or, 'Alasfor his splendor!'
Do not weepfor the deador mournfor him, [But] weepcontinuallyfor the one who goesaway; For he will neverreturnOr seehis nativeland.
Then Jeremiahchanteda lamentfor Josiah.And allthe male and female singersspeakaboutJosiahin their lamentationsto this day.And they madethem an ordinancein Israel;behold,they are also writtenin the Lamentations.
So Hezekiahsleptwith his fathers,and they buriedhim in the uppersectionof the tombsof the sonsof David;and allJudahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemhonoredhim at his death.And his sonManassehbecamekingin his place.
Then Davidsaidto Joaband to allthe peoplewhowere with him, "Tearyour clothesand girdon sackclothand lamentbeforeAbner."And KingDavidwalkedbehindthe bier.
Now Samuelwas dead,and allIsraelhad lamentedhim and buriedhim in Ramah,his own city.And Saulhad removedfrom the landthose who were mediumsand spiritists.
So the sonsof Israelweptfor Mosesin the plainsof Moabthirtydays;then the daysof weeping[and] mourningfor Mosescameto an end.
When allthe congregationsawthat Aaronhad died,allthe houseof Israelweptfor Aaronthirtydays.
Sarahdiedin Kiriath-arba(that is, Hebron)in the landof Canaan;and Abrahamwentin to mournfor Sarahand to weepfor her.
Saulwas in hearty agreementwith putting him to death.And on that daya greatpersecutionbeganagainstthe churchin Jerusalem,and they were allscatteredthroughoutthe regionsof Judeaand Samaria,exceptthe apostles.
But Saul[began] ravagingthe church,enteringhouseafterhouse,and draggingoff menand women,he would putthem in prison.
There also wentup with him bothchariotsand horsemen;and it was a verygreatcompany.
When his disciplesheard[about this], they cameand took awayhis bodyand laidit in a tomb.
