"AfterHe had removedhim, He raisedup Davidto be their king,concerning whomHe alsotestifiedand said,I HAVE FOUNDDAVIDthe son of Jesse,A MANAFTERMY HEART,whowill doallMy will.'
Then the menof Judahcameand thereanointedDavidkingoverthe houseof Judah.And they toldDavid,saying,"It was the menof Jabesh-gileadwhoburiedSaul."
but My lovingkindnessshall not departfrom him, as I took[it] awayfrom Saul,whomI removedfrom beforeyou.
"Nowtherefore, thusyou shall sayto My servantDavid,'Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,"I tookyou from the pasture,from followingthe sheep,to be ruleroverMy peopleIsrael.
He walkedin allthe sinsof his fatherwhichhe had committedbeforehim; and his heartwas not whollydevotedto the LORDhis God,like the heartof his fatherDavid.
becauseDaviddidwhatwas rightin the sightof the LORD,and had not turnedasidefrom anythingthat He commandedhim allthe daysof his life,exceptin the caseof Uriahthe Hittite.
So Sauldiedfor his trespasswhichhe committedagainst the LORD,becauseof the wordof the LORDwhichhe did not keep;and alsobecause he askedcounsel of a medium,makinginquiry[of it],
Boazbecamethe fatherof Obed,and Obedbecamethe fatherof Jesse;
"But as for Me, I have installedMy KingUpon Zion,My holymountain."
then My covenantmay alsobe brokenwith DavidMy servantso that he will not havea sonto reignon his throne,and with the Leviticalpriests,My ministers.
thenI would rejectthe descendantsof Jacoband DavidMy servant,not takingfrom his descendantsrulersoverthe descendantsof Abraham,Isaacand Jacob.But I will restoretheir fortunesand will havemercyon them.'"
"Then I will setoverthem oneshepherd,My servantDavid,and he will feedthem; he will feedthem himselfand be their shepherd.
Afterwardthe sonsof Israelwill returnand seekthe LORDtheir Godand Davidtheir king;and they will cometremblingto the LORDand to His goodnessin the lastdays.
"For David,after he had servedthe purposeof Godin his owngeneration,fell asleep,and was laidamonghis fathersand underwentdecay;
"And God,who knows the heart,testifiedto them givingthem the HolySpirit,justas He alsodid to us;
"[David] foundfavorin God'ssight,and askedthat he might finda dwelling placefor the Godof Jacob.
"But ifyou stilldowickedly,bothyou and your kingwill be sweptaway."
"I regretthat I have madeSaulking,for he has turnedbackfrom followingMe and has not carriedout My commands."And Samuelwas distressedand criedout to the LORDallnight.
"For rebellionis as the sinof divination,And insubordinationis as iniquityand idolatry.Becauseyou have rejectedthe wordof the LORD,He has also rejectedyou from [being] king."
But Samuelsaidto Saul,"I will not returnwith you; for you have rejectedthe wordof the LORD,and the LORDhas rejectedyou from beingkingoverIsrael."
So Samuelsaidto him, "The LORDhas tornthe kingdomof Israelfrom you todayand has givenit to your neighbor,who is betterthanyou.
Now the LORDsaidto Samuel,"Howlongwill you grieveoverSaul,since I have rejectedhim from beingkingoverIsrael?Fillyour hornwith oiland go;I will sendyou to Jessethe Bethlehemite,for I have selecteda kingfor Myself among his sons."
Then Samueltookthe hornof oiland anointedhim in the midstof his brothers;and the Spiritof the LORDcamemightilyupon Davidfrom that dayforward.And Samuelaroseand wentto Ramah.
Samuelsaid,"Whythen do you askme, since the LORDhas departedfrom you and has becomeyour adversary?
Thus Sauldiedwith his threesons,his armorbearer,and allhis menon that daytogether.
