When they had crossedover,Elijahsaidto Elisha,"AskwhatI shall dofor you beforeI am takenfrom you." And Elishasaid,"Please,let a doubleportionof your spiritbe upon me."
and Jehuthe sonof Nimshiyou shall anointkingoverIsrael;and Elishathe sonof Shaphatof Abel-meholahyou shall anointas prophetin your place.
"So giveYour servantan understandingheartto judgeYour peopleto discernbetweengoodand evil.For whois ableto judgethisgreatpeopleof Yours?"
Givethe kingYour judgments,O God,And Your righteousnessto the king'sson.
The prayersof Davidthe sonof Jesseare ended.
"In that daythe LORDwill defendthe inhabitantsof Jerusalem,and the one who is feebleamong them in that daywill be like David,and the houseof David[will be] like God,like the angelof the LORDbeforethem.
Returnto the stronghold,O prisonerswho have the hope;This verydayI am declaringthat I will restoredoubleto you.
"Then I will comedownand speakwith you there,and I will takeof the Spiritwhois upon you, and will put[Him] upon them; and they shall bearthe burdenof the peoplewith you, so that you will not bear[it] all alone.
Then the LORDcamedownin the cloudand spoketo him; and He tookof the Spiritwhowas upon him and placed[Him] upon the seventyelders.And when the Spiritrestedupon them, they prophesied.But they did not do[it] again.
"But I tellyou the truth,it is to your advantagethat I goaway;for ifI do not go away,the Helperwill not cometo you; but ifI go,I will sendHim to you.
but you will receivepowerwhen the HolySpirithas comeupon you; and you shall be My witnessesbothin Jerusalem,and in allJudeaand Samaria,and evento the remotest partof the earth."
Thenthey [began] layingtheir handson them, and they were receivingthe HolySpirit.
But earnestly desirethe greatergifts.And I showyou a stillmore excellentway.
"But he shall acknowledgethe firstborn,the sonof the unloved,by givinghim a doubleportionof allthat he has,for he is the beginningof his strength;to him belongs the rightof the firstborn.
Now Joshuathe sonof Nunwas filledwith the spiritof wisdom,for Moseshad laidhis handson him; and the sonsof Israellistenedto him and didas the LORDhad commandedMoses.
The elderswho rulewellare to be considered worthyof doublehonor,especiallythosewho work hardat preachingand teaching.
