Now in the seventhyearJehoiadasentand broughtthe captainsof hundredsof the Caritesand of the guard,and broughtthem to him in the houseof the LORD.Then he madea covenantwith them and putthem underoathin the houseof the LORD,and showedthem the king'sson.
Then Josephmade the sonsof Israelswear,saying,"Godwill surelytakecareof you, and you shall carrymy bonesup from here."
Now Joabwas overthe wholearmyof Israel,and Benaiahthe sonof Jehoiadawas overthe Cherethitesand the Pelethites;
Benaiahthe sonof Jehoiadawas over the Cherethitesand the Pelethites;and David'ssonswere chiefministers.
So KingRehoboammadeshieldsof bronzein their place,and committedthem to the careof the commandersof the guardwho guardedthe doorwayof the king'shouse.
"As the LORDyour Godlives,thereis nonationor kingdomwheremy masterhas not sentto searchfor you; and when they said,'He is not [here],' he made the kingdomor nationswearthat they could not findyou.
Then Jehoiadamadea covenantbetweenthe LORDand the kingand the people,that they would be the LORD'Speople,also betweenthe kingand the people.
He tookthe captainsof hundredsand the Caritesand the guardsand allthe peopleof the land;and they broughtthe kingdownfrom the houseof the LORD,and cameby the wayof the gateof the guardsto the king'shouse.And he saton the throneof the kings.
So he was hiddenwith her in the houseof the LORDsixyears,while Athaliahwas reigningoverthe land.
So the captainsof hundredsdidaccording to allthat Jehoiadathe priestcommanded.And eachoneof them tookhis menwho were to comein on the sabbath,with those who were to goout on the sabbath,and cameto Jehoiadathe priest.
Then KingJehoashcalledfor Jehoiadathe priest,and for the [other] priestsand saidto them, "Whydo you not repairthe damagesof the house?Nowtherefore takeno[more] moneyfrom your acquaintances,but payit for the damagesof the house."
The kingstoodby the pillarand madea covenantbeforethe LORD,to walkafterthe LORD,and to keepHis commandmentsand His testimoniesand His statuteswith all[his] heartand all[his] soul,to carryout the wordsof thiscovenantthat were writtenin thisbook.And allthe peopleenteredinto the covenant.
and their relatives,headsof their fathers'households,1760very ablemenfor the workof the serviceof the houseof God.
They enteredinto the covenantto seekthe LORDGodof their fatherswith alltheir heartand soul;
"Nowit is in my heartto makea covenantwith the LORDGodof Israel,that His burningangermay turnawayfrom us.
are joiningwith their kinsmen,their nobles,and are takingon themselves a curseand an oathto walkin God'slaw,whichwas giventhroughMoses,God'sservant,and to keepand to observeallthe commandmentsof GODour Lord,and His ordinancesand His statutes;
Then they said,"We will give[it] backand will requirenothingfrom them; we will doexactlyas you say."So I calledthe priestsand tookan oathfrom them that they would doaccording to thispromise.
"Now because of allthisWe are makingan agreementin writing;And on the sealeddocument [are the names of] our leaders,our Levites[and] our priests."
Nowwhenthe captainof the temple[guard] and the chief priestsheardthesewords,they were greatly perplexedaboutthem as to whatwould comeof this.
Thenthe captainwent alongwith the officersand [proceeded] to bringthem [back] withoutviolence(for they were afraidof the people,that they might be stoned).
So Joshuamadea covenantwith the peoplethat day,and madefor them a statuteand an ordinancein Shechem.
Then Jonathanmadea covenantwith Davidbecause he lovedhim as himself.
So the twoof them madea covenantbeforethe LORD;and Davidstayedat Horeshwhile Jonathanwentto his house.
