Saultriedto pinDavidto the wallwith the spear,but he slippedawayout of Saul'spresence,so that he stuckthe spearinto the wall.And Davidfledand escapedthat night.
Our soulhas escapedas a birdout of the snareof the trapper;The snareis brokenand we have escaped.
He deliveredme from my strongenemy,And from those who hatedme, for they were toomightyfor me.
Manyare the afflictionsof the righteous,But the LORDdelivershim out of them all.
The wickedspiesupon the righteousAnd seeksto killhim.
For their feetrunto evilAnd they hastento shedblood.
Thereis nowisdomand nounderstandingAnd nocounselagainstthe LORD.
"Noweaponthat is formedagainstyou will prosper;And everytonguethat accusesyou in judgmentyou will condemn.Thisis the heritageof the servantsof the LORD,And their vindicationis from Me," declaresthe LORD.
Whatshall I dowith you, O Ephraim?Whatshall I dowith you, O Judah?For your loyaltyis like a morningcloudAnd like the dewwhich goesaway early.
"But wheneverthey persecuteyou in onecity,fleeto the next;for trulyI sayto you, you will not finish[going through] the citiesof Israeluntilthe Sonof Mancomes.
But passingthroughtheir midst,He went His way.
Thereforethey were seekingagainto seizeHim, and He eludedtheir grasp.
quenchedthe powerof fire,escapedthe edgeof the sword,from weaknesswere made strong,becamemightyin war,putforeignarmiesto flight.
Now it cameabout on the nextdaythat an evilspiritfrom Godcamemightilyupon Saul,and he ravedin the midstof the house,while Davidwas playing[the harp] with his hand,as usual;and a spear[was] in Saul'shand.
Saulhurledthe spearfor he thought,"I will pinDavidto the wall."But Davidescapedfrom his presencetwice.
Saullistenedto the voiceof Jonathan,and Saulvowed,"As the LORDlives,he shall not be putto death."
Then Saulhurledhis spearat him to strikehim down;so Jonathanknewthat his fatherhad decidedto putDavidto death.
