When Sauland allIsraelheardthesewordsof the Philistine,they were dismayedand greatlyafraid.
The LORDis for me; I will not fear;Whatcan mandoto me?
The LORDis my lightand my salvation;Whomshall I fear?The LORDis the defenseof my life;Whomshall I dread?
The wickedfleewhen nooneis pursuing,But the righteousare boldas a lion.
"Of whomwere you worriedand fearfulWhenyou lied,and did not rememberMe Norgive[Me] a thought?Was I not silenteven for a longtimeSo you do not fearMe?
"The LORDis the one who goesaheadof you; He will be with you. He will not failyou or forsakeyou. Do not fearor be dismayed."
"Have I not commandedyou? Be strongand courageous!Do not trembleor be dismayed,for the LORDyour Godis with you whereveryou go."
Also [some of] the Hebrewscrossedthe Jordaninto the landof Gadand Gilead.But as for Saul,he [was] stillin Gilgal,and allthe peoplefollowedhim trembling.
Again the Philistinesaid,"I defythe ranksof Israelthisday;giveme a manthat we may fighttogether."
Now Davidwas the sonof the Ephrathiteof Bethlehemin Judah,whose namewas Jesse,and he had eightsons.And Jesse was oldin the daysof Saul,advanced[in years] among men.
So he disguisedhis sanitybeforethem, and actedinsanelyin their hands,and scribbledon the doorsof the gate,and let his salivarundowninto his beard.
Now when the Philistinesheardthat the sonsof Israelhad gatheredto Mizpah,the lordsof the Philistineswentup againstIsrael.And when the sonsof Israelheardit, they were afraidof the Philistines.
