When middaywas past,they raveduntilthe time of the offeringof the [evening] sacrifice;but therewas novoice,nooneanswered,and noonepaidattention.
Howeverat that time,when you did not knowGod,you were slavesto thosewhich by natureare nogods.
Allthe prophetswere prophesyingthus,saying,"Goup to Ramoth-gileadand prosper,for the LORDwill give[it] into the handof the king."
Now the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatkingof Judahwere sittingeachon his throne,arrayedin [their] robes,at the threshingfloorat the entranceof the gateof Samaria;and allthe prophetswere prophesyingbeforethem.
Then they tookthe oxwhichwas giventhem and they preparedit and calledon the nameof Baalfrom morninguntilnoonsaying,"O Baal,answerus." But therewas novoiceand nooneanswered.And they leapedaboutthe altarwhichthey made.
Now it cameabout on the nextdaythat an evilspiritfrom Godcamemightilyupon Saul,and he ravedin the midstof the house,while Davidwas playing[the harp] with his hand,as usual;and a spear[was] in Saul'shand.
"The otherlambyou shall offerat twilight,and shall offerwith it the same grain offeringand the same drinkofferingas in the morning,for a soothingaroma,an offeringby fireto the LORD.
"The onelambyou shall offerin the morningand the otherlambyou shall offerat twilight;
At the timeof the offeringof the [evening] sacrifice,Elijahthe prophetcamenearand said,"O LORD,the Godof Abraham,Isaacand Israel,todaylet it be knownthat You are Godin Israeland that I am Your servantand I have doneallthesethingsat Your word.
May my prayerbe countedas incensebeforeYou; The liftingup of my handsas the eveningoffering.
So it will comeabout whenMoabpresentshimself, Whenhe wearieshimself upon [his] highplaceAnd comesto his sanctuaryto pray,That he will not prevail.
So they piledthem in heaps,and the landbecamefoul.
"Afterwardyou will cometo the hillof Godwherethe Philistinegarrisonis; and it shall be as soon as you have comethereto the city,that you will meeta groupof prophetscomingdownfrom the highplacewith harp,tambourine,flute,and a lyrebeforethem, and they will be prophesying.
Their idolsare silverand gold,The workof man'shands.
"They liftit upon the shoulder[and] carryit; They setit in its placeand it stands[there]. It does not movefrom its place.Thoughone may cryto it, it cannotanswer;It cannotdeliverhim from his distress.
whileI was stillspeakingin prayer,then the manGabriel,whomI had seenin the visionpreviously,cameto me in [my] extremewearinessabout the timeof the eveningoffering.
