Davidwas thenin the stronghold,while the garrisonof the Philistineswas thenin Bethlehem.
Theseare the oneswhocrossedthe Jordanin the firstmonthwhen it was overflowingallits banksand they putto flightallthose in the valleys,both to the eastand to the west.
Davidwentout to meetthem, and saidto them, "Ifyou comepeacefullyto me to helpme, my heartshall be unitedwith you; but ifto betrayme to my adversaries,since there is nowrongin my hands,may the Godof our fatherslookon [it] and decide."
From the Gaditesthere cameoverto Davidin the strongholdin the wilderness,mightymenof valor,mentrainedfor war,who could handleshieldand spear,and whose faceswere like the facesof lions,and [they were] as swiftas the gazelleson the mountains.
Thereis Benjamin,the youngest,rulingthem, The princesof Judah[in] their throng,The princesof Zebulun,the princesof Naphtali.
and when those who carriedthe arkcameinto the Jordan,and the feetof the priestscarryingthe arkwere dippedin the edgeof the water(for the Jordanoverflowsallits banksallthe daysof harvest),
Then he leftthem with the kingof Moab;and they stayedwith him allthe timethat Davidwas in the stronghold.
Saulsaidto his servantswho stoodaroundhim, "Hearnow,O Benjamites!Will the sonof Jessealsogiveto allof you fieldsand vineyards?Will he makeyou allcommandersof thousandsand commandersof hundreds?
