Then Saulsaidto his armorbearer,"Drawyour swordand thrustme throughwith it, otherwisetheseuncircumcisedwill comeand abuseme." But his armorbearerwouldnot, for he was greatlyafraid.Therefore Saultookhis swordand fellon it.
"Tell[it] not in Gath,Proclaimit not in the streetsof Ashkelon,Orthe daughtersof the Philistineswill rejoice,The daughtersof the uncircumcisedwill exult.
The youngmanwho toldhim said,"By chanceI happenedto be on MountGilboa,and behold,Saulwas leaningon his spear.And behold,the chariotsand the horsemenpursuedhim closely.
Now whenAhithophelsawthat his counselwas not followed,he saddled[his] donkeyand aroseand wentto his home,to his city,and sethis housein order,and strangledhimself; thus he diedand was buriedin the graveof his father.
When Zimrisawthat the citywas taken,he wentinto the citadelof the king'shouseand burnedthe king'shouseoverhim with fire,and died,
The battlebecameheavyagainstSaul,and the archersovertookhim; and he was woundedby the archers.
When his armorbearersawthat Saulwas dead,he likewisefellon his swordand died.
(Nowthis manacquireda fieldwith the priceof his wickedness,and fallingheadlong,he burst openin the middleand allhis intestinesgushedout.
When the jailerawokeand sawthe prisondoorsopened,he drewhis swordand was aboutto killhimself,supposingthat the prisonershad escaped.
Then he becameverythirsty,and he calledto the LORDand said,"You have giventhisgreatdeliveranceby the handof Your servant,and nowshall I dieof thirstand fallinto the handsof the uncircumcised?"
Then the Philistinesseizedhim and gougedout his eyes;and they broughthim downto Gazaand boundhim with bronzechains,and he was a grinderin the prison.
Then he calledquicklyto the youngman,his armorbearer,and saidto him, "Drawyour swordand killme, sothat it will not be saidof me, 'A womanslewhim.'" So the youngmanpiercedhim through,and he died.
Then Jonathansaidto the youngmanwho was carryinghis armor,"Comeand let us crossoverto the garrisonof theseuncircumcised;perhapsthe LORDwill workfor us, for the LORDis not restrainedto saveby manyorby few."
Then Davidspoketo the menwho were standingby him, saying,"Whatwill be donefor the manwhokillsthisPhilistineand takesawaythe reproachfrom Israel?For whois thisuncircumcisedPhilistine,that he should tauntthe armiesof the livingGod?"
"Your servanthas killedboththe lionand the bear;and thisuncircumcisedPhilistinewill be like oneof them, sincehe has tauntedthe armiesof the livingGod."
Then Saulsaidto his armorbearer,"Drawyour swordand pierceme throughwith it, otherwisetheseuncircumcisedwill comeand pierceme throughand makesportof me." But his armorbearerwouldnot, for he was greatlyafraid.So Saultookhis swordand fellon it.
