And this house shall be made an example of. Every one that shall pass by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss, and say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?


Therefore the wrath of the Lord hath been stirred up against Juda and Jerusalem: and he hath delivered them to trouble, and to destruction, and to be hissed at, as you see with your eyes.


All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,


This is the word which the Lord hath spoken of him: The virgin, the daughter of Sion, hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn: the daughter of Jerusalem hath wagged the head after thee.


And I said: How long, O Lord? And he said: Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land shall be left desolate.


And I will make this city an astonishent and a hissing: every one that shall pass by it shall be astonished and shall hiss because of all the plagues thereof.


Behold, I will send, and take all the kindreds of the north, saith the Lord, and Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon my servant: and I will bring them against this land and against the inhabitants thereof and against all the nations that are round about it: and I will destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and perpetual desolations.


And I will persecute them with the sword and with famine and with the pestilence: and I will give them up unto affliction to all the kingdoms of the earth: to be a curse and an astonishment and a hissing and a reproach to all the nations to which I have driven them out:


For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my indignation hath been kindled against the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so shall my indignation be kindled against you, when you shall enter into Egypt. And you shall be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach: and you shall see this place no more.


And I will take the remnant of Juda that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt and to dwell there: and they shall be all consumed in the land of Egypt. They shall fall by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be consumed from the least even to the greatest. By the sword, and by the famine shall they die: and they shall be for an execration and for a wonder and for a curse and for a reproach.


For Israel hath been a derision unto thee: as though thou hadst found him amongst thieves: for thy words therefore, which thou hast spoken against him, thou shalt be led away captive.


For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord, that Bosra shall become a desolation and a reproach and a desert and a curse: and all her cities shall be everlasting wastes.


And Edom shall be desolate: every one that shall pass by it shall be astonished and shall hiss at all its plagues.


Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but shall be wholly desolate: every one that shall pass by Babylon shall be astonished and hiss at all her plagues.


And Babylon shall be reduced to heaps, a dwelling-place for dragons, an astonishment and a hissing, because there is no inhabitant.


Her cities are become an astonishment, a land uninhabited and desolate, a land wherein none can dwell, nor son of man pass through it.


And I will make Jerusalem to be heaps of sand, and dens of dragons: and I will make the cities of Juda desolate, for want of an inhabitant.


Lamed. O all ye that pass by the way, attend, and see if there be any sorrow like to my sorrow: for he hath made a vintage of me, as the Lord spoke in the day of his fierce anger.


And say to the people of the land: Thus saith the Lord God to them that dwell in Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread in care, and drink their water in desolation: that the land may become desolate from the multitude that is therein, for the iniquity of all that dwell therein.


The merchants of people have hissed at thee. Thou art brought to nothing, and thou shalt never be any more.


Therefore prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord God: Because you have been desolate, and trodden under foot on every side, and made an inheritance to the rest of the nations, and are become the subject of the talk, and the reproach of the people:


And I will stretch forth my hand upon them: and I will make the land desolate and abandoned, from the desert of Deblatha, in all their dwelling-places: and they shall know that I am the Lord.


And I will destroy your land: and your enemies shall be astonished at it, when they shall be the inhabitants thereof.


Which when she shall be left by them shall enjoy her sabbaths, being desolate for them. But they shall pray for their sins, because they rejected my judgments, and despised my laws.


For thou hast kept the statutes of Amri, and all the works of the house of Achab: and thou hast walked according to their wills, that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing, and you shall bear the reproach of my people.


And they that passed by, blasphemed him, wagging their heads,


And they that passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God, and in three days buildest it up again;


The Lord shall increase thy plagues, and the plagues of thy seed, plagues great and lasting, infirmities grievous and perpetual.


Burning it with brimstone, and the heat of salt, so that it cannot be sown any more, nor any green thing grow therein, after the example of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha, Adama and Seboim, which the Lord destroyed in his wrath and indignation:
