But Absalom fled away. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked: and, behold, there came much people by a byway on the side of the mountain.


And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman that was on the top of the gate upon the wall, lifting up his eyes, saw a man running alone.


Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had preferred me to be their king: but the kingdom is transferred, and is become my brother's; for it was appointed him by the Lord.


They brought therefore two horses; and the king sent into the camp of the Syrians, saying: Go, and see.


Then Jehu went forth to the servants of his Lord. And they said to him: Are all things well? Why came this mad man to thee? And he said to them: You know the man, and what he said.


And he got up, and went into Jezrahel: for Joram was sick there, and Ochozias king of Juda was come down to visit Joram.


So there went one in a chariot to meet him, and said: Thus saith the king: Are all things peaceable? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? Go behind and follow me. And the watchman told, saying: The messenger came to them; but he returneth not.


And he sent a second chariot of horses. And he came to them, and said: Thus saith the king: Is there peace? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? Pass, and follow me.


His watchmen are all blind. They are all ignorant: dumb dogs not able to bark, seeing vain things, sleeping, and loving dreams.


Upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen, all the day and all the night: they shall never hold their peace. You that are mindful of the Lord, hold not your peace,


Then Samuel did as the Lord had said to him. And he came to Bethlehem, and the ancients of the city wondered, and meeting him they said: Is thy coming hither peaceable?


And David leaving the vessels which he had brought, under the care of the keeper of the baggage, ran to the place of the battle and asked if all things went well with his brethren.
