And Joab said: If the Syrians are too strong for me, then thou shalt help me. But if the children of Ammon are too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
And the children of Ammon seeing that the Syrians were fled, they fled also before Abisai, and entered into the city. And Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the earth. And he measured with two lines, one to put to death, and one to save alive: and Moab was made to serve David under tribute.
And all the vessels of gold, and silver, and brass king David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and gold which he had taken from all the nations: as well from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, as from the Philistines, and from Amalec.
And he took Agag the king of Amalec alive: but all the common people he slew with the edge of the sword.
And David and his men went up, and pillaged Gessuri, and Gerzi, and the Amalecites: for these were of old the inhabitants of the countries, as men go to Sur, even to the land of Egypt.
And David slew them from the evening unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, but four hundred young men, who had gotten upon camels, and fled.
