Then Joab arose and went to Gessur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.


And Absalom answered Joab: I sent to thee beseeching thee to come to me, that I might send thee to the king, to say to him: Wherefore am I come from Gessur? It had been better for me to be there. I beseech thee therefore that I may see the face of the king: and if he be mindful of my iniquity, let him kill me.


For thy servant made a vow, when he was in Gessur of Syria, saying: If the Lord shall bring me again into Jerusalem, I will offer sacrifice to the Lord.


Immediately David's servants and Joab came, after having slain the robbers, with an exceeding great booty. And Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had now sent him away, and he was gone in peace.


And his second Cheleab of Abigail the wife of Nabal of Carmel: and the third Absalom the son of Maacha the daughter of Tholmai king of Gessur:


Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalec, and of the spoils of Adarezer the son of Rohob king of Soba.


And he took Gessur, and Aram the towns of Jair, and Canath, and the villages thereof, threescore cities. All these, the sons of Machir father of Galaad.


And Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went forth into the wilderness of Sur: and they marched three days through the wilderness, and found no water.


And Amalec came, and fought against Israel in Raphidim.


But it hath very strong inhabitants: and the cities are great and walled. We saw there the race of Enac.


And the Amalecite came down, and the Chanaanite that dwelt in the mountain: and smiting and slaying them pursued them as far as Horma.


Of Gessuri and Machati, and of half Galaad: the borders of Sehon the king of Hesebon.


And the children of Israel would not destroy Gessuri and Machati: and they have dwelt in the midst of Israel, until this present day.


To wit, all Galilee, Philistia, and all Gessuri.


And the children of Ephraim slew not the Chanaanite, who dwelt in Gazer: and the Chanaanite dwelt in the midst of Ephraim until this day, paying tribute.


Ephraim also did not slay the Chanaanite that dwelt in Gazer, but dwelt with him.


Then Achis called David, and said to him: As the Lord liveth, thou art upright and good in my sight; and so is thy going out, and thy coming in with me in the army. And I have not found my evil in thee, since the day that thou camest to me unto this day: but thou pleasest not the lords.


Now, when David and his men were come to Siceleg on the third day, the Amalecites had made an invasion on the south side upon Siceleg, and had smitten Siceleg, and burnt it with fire.
