He said to Abram, “You may know-know that your offspring will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.


They took their livestock, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt—Jacob, and all his offspring with him,


his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and he brought all his offspring with him into Egypt.


On the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Look, while the child was still alive, he didn’t listen to our voice when we spoke to him. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He might harm himself!”


and he said, “When y’all help the Hebrew women during childbirth on the birth stool, if you see a son, then y’all must kill him, but if it’s a daughter, then she may live.”


Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Y’all must cast every son who is born into the river, and y’all must let every daughter live.”


Now the time that the children of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years.


The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked, “Why haven’t y’all fulfilled y’all’s quota brick yesterday and today, as before?”


We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;


Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must also make yourself a ruler over us?


Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;


When we cried to YHWH, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Now look, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.


and Jacob went down to Egypt. He and our ancestors died there,


He exploited our people and oppressed our ancestors, forcing them to abandon their babies, so that they wouldn’t survive.


But the Egyptians mistreated us, oppressed us, and imposed hard labor on us.
