He is driven from light into the realm of darkness and is banished from the world.


Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.


So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.


You will know that your tent is secure; you will take stock of your property and find nothing missing.


For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.


He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no-one faltered.


He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber;


The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand;


the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore.


The Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.


Let me not be put to shame, Lord, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.


For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish.


When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.


Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.


In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.


All their days they eat in darkness, with great frustration, affliction and anger.


I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favour to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.


These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.

They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever.


Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.


And now, my lord, as surely as the Lord your God lives and as you live, since the Lord has kept you from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hands, may your enemies and all who are intent on harming my lord be like Nabal.
