² H136And the LordH5414gave[H8799] H3079JehoiakimH4428kingH3063of JudahH3027into his handH7117, with partH3627of the vesselsH1004of the houseH430of GodH935: which he carried[H8686] H776into the landH8152of ShinarH1004to the houseH430of his godH935; and he brought[H8689] H3627the vesselsH214into the treasureH1004houseH430of his god.

³ H4428And the kingH559spake[H8799] H828unto AshpenazH7227the masterH5631of his eunuchsH935, that he should bring[H8687] H1121certain of the childrenH3478of IsraelH4410, and of the king'sH2233seedH6579, and of the princes;

⁴ H3206ChildrenH3971in whom was no blemish[H8675] H3971 H2896, but wellH4758favouredH7919, and skilful[H8688] H2451in all wisdomH3045, and cunning[H8802] H1847in knowledgeH995, and understanding[H8688] H4093scienceH3581, and such as had abilityH5975in them to stand[H8800] H4428in the king'sH1964palaceH3925, and whom they might teach[H8763] H5612the learningH3956and the tongueH3778of the Chaldeans.

⁵ H4428And the kingH4487appointed[H8762] H3117them a dailyH3117 H1697provisionH4428of the king'sH6598meatH3196, and of the wineH4960which he drankH1431: so nourishing[H8763] H7969them threeH8141yearsH7117, that at the endH5975thereof they might stand[H8799] H6440beforeH4428the king.

⁶ H1121Now among these were of the childrenH3063of JudahH1840, DanielH2608, HananiahH4332, MishaelH5838, and Azariah:

⁷ H8269Unto whom the princeH5631of the eunuchsH7760gave[H8799] H8034namesH7760: for he gave[H8799] H1840unto DanielH1095the name of BelteshazzarH2608; and to HananiahH7714, of ShadrachH4332; and to MishaelH4335, of MeshachH5838; and to AzariahH5664, of Abednego.

⁸ H1840But DanielH7760purposed[H8799] H3820in his heartH1351that he would not defile[H8691] H6598himself with the portionH4428of the king'sH6598meatH3196, nor with the wineH4960which he drankH1245: therefore he requested[H8762] H8269of the princeH5631of the eunuchsH1351that he might not defile[H8691]  himself.

⁹ H430Now GodH5414had brought[H8799] H1840DanielH2617into favourH7356and tender loveH6440withH8269the princeH5631of the eunuchs.

¹⁰ H8269And the princeH5631of the eunuchsH559said[H8799] H1840unto DanielH3373, I fearH113my lordH4428the kingH4487, who hath appointed[H8765] H3978your meatH4960and your drinkH7200: for why should he see[H8799] H6440your facesH2196worse liking[H8802] H3206than the childrenH1524which are of your sortH2325? then shall ye make me endanger[H8765] H7218my headH4428to the king.

¹¹ H559Then said[H8799] H1840DanielH4453to MelzarH8269, whom the princeH5631of the eunuchsH4487had set[H8765] H1840over DanielH2608, HananiahH4332, MishaelH5838, and Azariah,

¹² H5254Prove[H8761] H5650thy servantsH6235, I beseech thee, tenH3117daysH5414; and let them give[H8799] H2235us pulseH398to eat[H8799] H4325, and waterH8354to drink[H8799] .

¹³ H4758Then let our countenancesH7200be looked upon[H8735] H6440beforeH4758thee, and the countenanceH3206of the childrenH398that eat[H8802] H6598of the portionH4428of the king'sH6598meatH7200: and as thou seest[H8799] H6213, deal[H8798] H5650with thy servants.

¹⁴ H8085So he consented[H8799] H1697to them in this matterH5254, and proved[H8762] H6235them tenH3117days.

¹⁵ H7117And at the endH6235of tenH3117daysH4758their countenancesH7200appeared[H8738] H2896fairerH1277and fatterH1320in fleshH3206than all the childrenH398which did eat[H8802] H6598the portionH4428of the king'sH6598meat.

¹⁶ H4453Thus MelzarH5375took away[H8802] H6598the portion of their meatH3196, and the wineH4960that they should drinkH5414; and gave[H8802] H2235them pulse.

¹⁷ H702As for these fourH3206childrenH430, GodH5414gave[H8804] H4093them knowledgeH7919and skill[H8687] H5612in all learningH2451and wisdomH1840: and DanielH995had understanding[H8689] H2377in all visionsH2472and dreams.

¹⁸ H7117Now at the endH3117of the daysH4428that the kingH559had said[H8804] H935he should bring[H8687] H8269them in, then the princeH5631of the eunuchsH935brought[H8686] H6440them in beforeH5019Nebuchadnezzar.

¹⁹ H4428And the kingH1696communed[H8762] H4672with them; and among them all was found[H8738] H1840none like DanielH2608, HananiahH4332, MishaelH5838, and AzariahH5975: therefore stood[H8799] H6440they beforeH4428the king.

²⁰ H1697And in all mattersH2451of wisdomH998and understandingH4428, that the kingH1245enquired[H8765] H4672of them, he found[H8799] H6235them ten timesH3027betterH2748than all the magiciansH825and astrologersH4438that were in all his realm.

²¹ H1840And DanielH259continued even unto the firstH8141yearH4428of kingH3566Cyrus.
