² H376So every manH3478of IsraelH5927went up[H8799] H310from afterH1732DavidH310, and followedH7652ShebaH1121the sonH1075of BichriH376: but the menH3063of JudahH1692clave[H8804] H4428unto their kingH3383, from JordanH3389even to Jerusalem.

³ H1732And DavidH935came[H8799] H1004to his houseH3389at JerusalemH4428; and the kingH3947took[H8799] H6235the tenH802womenH6370his concubinesH3240, whom he had left[H8689] H8104to keep[H8800] H1004the houseH5414, and put[H8799] H4931them in wardH3557, and fed[H8770] H935them, but went not in[H8804] H6887unto them. ⁶ H1732And DavidH559said[H8799] H52to AbishaiH7652, Now shall ShebaH1121the sonH1075of BichriH3415do us more harm[H8799] H53than did AbsalomH3947: take[H8798] H113thou thy lord'sH5650servantsH7291, and pursue[H8798] H310afterH4672him, lest he get[H8804] H1219him fenced[H8803] H5892citiesH5337, and escape[H8689] H5869us.

⁸ H1419When they were at the greatH68stoneH1391which is in GibeonH6021, AmasaH935went[H8804] H6440beforeH3097them. And Joab'sH4055garmentH3830that he had put onH2296was girded[H8803] H2289unto him, and upon it a girdleH2719with a swordH6775fastened[H8794] H4975upon his loinsH8593in the sheathH3318thereof; and as he went forth[H8804] H5307it fell out[H8799] .

¹⁵ H935And they came[H8799] H6696and besieged[H8799] H59him in AbelH1038of BethmaachahH8210, and they cast up[H8799] H5550a bankH5892against the cityH5975, and it stood[H8799] H2426in the trenchH5971: and all the peopleH3097that were with JoabH7843battered[H8688] H2346the wallH5307, to throw it down[H8687] .

¹⁶ H7121Then cried[H8799] H2450a wiseH802womanH5892out of the cityH8085, Hear[H8798] H8085, hear[H8798] H559; say[H8798] H3097, I pray you, unto JoabH7126, Come near[H8798] H1696hither, that I may speak[H8762]  with thee.

¹⁷ H7126And when he was come near[H8799] H802unto her, the womanH559said[H8799] H3097, Art thou JoabH559? And he answered[H8799] H559, I am he . Then she said[H8799] H8085unto him, Hear[H8798] H1697the wordsH519of thine handmaidH559. And he answered[H8799] H8085, I do hear[H8802] .

¹⁸ H559Then she spake[H8799] H559, saying[H8800] H1696, They were wont[H8763] H1696to speak[H8762] H7223in old timeH559, saying[H8800] H7592, They shall surely[H8800] H7592ask[H8762] H59counsel at AbelH8552: and so they ended[H8689]  the matter .

¹⁹ H7999I am one of them that are peaceable[H8803] H539and faithful[H8803] H3478in IsraelH1245: thou seekest[H8764] H4191to destroy[H8687] H5892a cityH517and a motherH3478in IsraelH1104: why wilt thou swallow up[H8762] H5159the inheritanceH3068of the LORD?

²⁰ H3097And JoabH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H2486, Far be itH2486, far be itH1104from me, that I should swallow up[H8762] H7843or destroy[H8686] .
