² H3097And JoabH7971sent[H8799] H8620to TekoahH3947, and fetched[H8799] H2450thence a wiseH802womanH559, and said[H8799] H56unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner[H8693] H3847, and put on[H8798] H60now mourningH899apparelH5480, and anoint[H8799] H8081not thyself with oilH802, but be as a womanH7227that had a longH3117timeH56mourned[H8690] H4191for the dead[H8801] :

³ H935And come[H8804] H4428to the kingH1696, and speak[H8765] H1697on this mannerH3097unto him. So JoabH7760put[H8799] H1697the wordsH6310in her mouth.

⁴ H802And when the womanH8621of TekoahH559spake[H8799] H4428to the kingH5307, she fell[H8799] H639on her faceH776to the groundH7812, and did obeisance[H8691] H559, and said[H8799] H3467, Help[H8685] H4428, O king.

⁵ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H559unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered[H8799] H61, I am indeedH490a widowH802womanH376, and mine husbandH4191is dead[H8799] .

⁶ H8198And thy handmaidH8147had twoH1121sonsH8147, and they twoH5327strove together[H8735] H7704in the fieldH5337, and there was none to part[H8688] H259them, but the oneH5221smote[H8686] H259the otherH4191, and slew[H8686]  him.

⁷ H4940And, behold, the whole familyH6965is risen[H8804] H8198against thine handmaidH559, and they said[H8799] H5414, Deliver[H8798] H5221him that smote[H8688] H251his brotherH4191, that we may kill[H8686] H5315him, for the lifeH251of his brotherH2026whom he slew[H8804] H8045; and we will destroy[H8686] H3423the heir[H8802] H3518also: and so they shall quench[H8765] H1513my coalH7760which is left[H8800] H7604, and shall not leave[H8738] H376to my husbandH8034neither nameH7611nor remainderH6440uponH127the earth.

⁸ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H802unto the womanH3212, Go[H8798] H1004to thine houseH6680, and I will give charge[H8762]  concerning thee.

⁹ H802And the womanH8621of TekoahH559said[H8799] H4428unto the kingH113, My lordH4428, O kingH5771, the iniquityH1be on me, and on my father'sH1004houseH4428: and the kingH3678and his throneH5355be guiltless.

¹⁰ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H1696, Whosoever saith[H8764] H935ought unto thee, bring[H8689] H5060him to me, and he shall not touch[H8800] H3254thee any more[H8686] .

¹¹ H559Then said[H8799] H4428she, I pray thee, let the kingH2142remember[H8799] H3068the LORDH430thy GodH1350, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers[H8802] H1818of bloodH7843to destroy[H8763] H7235any more[H8687] H8045, lest they destroy[H8686] H1121my sonH559. And he said[H8799] H3068, As the LORDH2416livethH8185, there shall not one hairH1121of thy sonH5307fall[H8799] H776to the earth.

¹² H802Then the womanH559said[H8799] H8198, Let thine handmaidH1696, I pray thee, speak[H8762] H1697one wordH113unto my lordH4428the kingH559. And he said[H8799] H1696, Say on[H8761] .

¹³ H802And the womanH559said[H8799] H2803, Wherefore then hast thou thought[H8804] H5971such a thing against the peopleH430of GodH4428? for the kingH1696doth speak[H8693] H1697this thingH818as one which is faultyH4428, in that the kingH7725doth not fetch home again[H8687] H5080his banished[H8737] .

¹⁴ H4191For we must needs[H8800] H4191die[H8799] H4325, and are as waterH5064spilt[H8737] H776on the groundH622, which cannot be gathered up again[H8735] H430; neither doth GodH5375respect[H8799] H5315any personH2803: yet doth he devise[H8804] H4284meansH5080, that his banished[H8737] H5080be not expelled[H8799]  from him.

¹⁵ H935Now therefore that I am come[H8804] H1696to speak[H8763] H1697of this thingH113unto my lordH4428the kingH5971, it is because the peopleH3372have made me afraid[H8765] H8198: and thy handmaidH559said[H8799] H1696, I will now speak[H8762] H4428unto the kingH4428; it may be that the kingH6213will perform[H8799] H1697the requestH519of his handmaid.

¹⁶ H4428For the kingH8085will hear[H8799] H5337, to deliver[H8687] H519his handmaidH3709out of the handH376of the manH8045that would destroy[H8687] H1121me and my sonH3162togetherH5159out of the inheritanceH430of God.

¹⁷ H8198Then thine handmaidH559said[H8799] H1697, The wordH113of my lordH4428the kingH4496shall now be comfortableH4397: for as an angelH430of GodH113, so is my lordH4428the kingH8085to discern[H8800] H2896goodH7451and badH3068: therefore the LORDH430thy God will be with thee.

¹⁸ H4428Then the kingH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H802unto the womanH3582, Hide[H8762] H1697not from me, I pray thee, the thingH7592that I shall ask[H8802] H802thee. And the womanH559said[H8799] H113, Let my lordH4428the kingH1696now speak[H8762] .

¹⁹ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H3027, Is not the handH3097of JoabH802with thee in all this? And the womanH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H5315, As thy soulH2416livethH113, my lordH4428the kingH376, noneH786canH3231turn to the right hand[H8687] H8041or to the left[H8687] H113from ought that my lordH4428the kingH1696hath spoken[H8765] H5650: for thy servantH3097JoabH6680, he bade[H8765] H7760me, and he put[H8804] H1697all these wordsH6310in the mouthH8198of thine handmaid:

²⁰ H5668ToH5437fetch about[H8763] H6440this formH1697of speechH5650hath thy servantH3097JoabH6213done[H8804] H1697this thingH113: and my lordH2450is wiseH2451, according to the wisdomH4397of an angelH430of GodH3045, to know[H8800] H776all things that are in the earth.

²¹ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H3097unto JoabH6213, Behold now, I have done[H8804] H1697this thingH3212: go[H8798] H7725therefore, bringH5288the young manH53AbsalomH7725again[H8685] .

²² H3097And JoabH5307fell[H8799] H776to the groundH6440on his faceH7812, and bowed[H8691] H1288himself, and thanked[H8762] H4428the kingH3097: and JoabH559said[H8799] H3117, To dayH5650thy servantH3045knoweth[H8804] H4672that I have found[H8804] H2580graceH5869in thy sightH113, my lordH4428, O kingH4428, in that the kingH6213hath fulfilled[H8804] H1697the requestH5650of his servant.

²³ H3097So JoabH6965arose[H8799] H3212and went[H8799] H1650to GeshurH935, and brought[H8686] H53AbsalomH3389to Jerusalem.

²⁴ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H5437, Let him turn[H8735] H1004to his own houseH7200, and let him not see[H8799] H6440my faceH53. So AbsalomH5437returned[H8735] H1004to his own houseH7200, and saw[H8804] H4428not the king'sH6440face.

²⁵ H3478But in all IsraelH376there was noneH3966to be so muchH1984praised[H8763] H53as AbsalomH3303for his beautyH3709: from the soleH7272of his footH6936even to the crown of his headH3971there was no blemish in him.

²⁶ H1548And when he polled[H8763] H7218his headH3117, (for it was at every year'sH3117 H7093endH1548that he polled[H8762] H3513it : because the hair was heavy[H8804] H1548on him, therefore he polled[H8765] H8254it:) he weighed[H8804] H8181the hairH7218of his headH3967at two hundredH8255shekelsH4428after the king'sH68weight.

²⁷ H53And unto AbsalomH3205there were born[H8735] H7969threeH1121sonsH259, and oneH1323daughterH8034, whose nameH8559was TamarH802: she was a womanH3303of a fairH4758countenance.

²⁸ H53So AbsalomH3427dwelt[H8799] H3117two fullH8141yearsH3389in JerusalemH7200, and saw[H8804] H4428not the king'sH6440face.

²⁹ H53Therefore AbsalomH7971sent[H8799] H3097for JoabH7971, to have sent[H8800] H4428him to the kingH14; but he would[H8804] H935not come[H8800] H7971to him: and when he sent again[H8799] H8145the second timeH14, he would[H8804] H935not come[H8800] .

³⁰ H559Therefore he said[H8799] H5650unto his servantsH7200, See[H8798] H3097, Joab'sH2513fieldH413is nearH3027mineH8184, and he hath barleyH3212there; go[H8798] H3341and set[H8685] H784it on fireH53. And Absalom'sH5650servantsH3341set[H8686] H2513the fieldH784on fire.

³¹ H3097Then JoabH6965arose[H8799] H935, and came[H8799] H53to AbsalomH1004unto his houseH559, and said[H8799] H5650unto him, Wherefore have thy servantsH3341set[H8689] H2513my fieldH784on fire?

³² H53And AbsalomH559answered[H8799] H3097JoabH7971, Behold, I sent[H8804] H559unto thee, saying[H8800] H935, Come[H8798] H7971hither, that I may send[H8799] H4428thee to the kingH559, to say[H8800] H935, Wherefore am I come[H8804] H1650from GeshurH2896? it had been goodH7200for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see[H8799] H4428the king'sH6440faceH3426; and if there beH5771any iniquityH4191in me, let him kill[H8689]  me.

³³ H3097So JoabH935came[H8799] H4428to the kingH5046, and told[H8686] H7121him: and when he had called[H8799] H53for AbsalomH935, he came[H8799] H4428to the kingH7812, and bowed[H8691] H639himself on his faceH776to the groundH6440beforeH4428the kingH4428: and the kingH5401kissed[H8799] H53Absalom.
