² H559Thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH6635of hostsH6485, I remember[H8804] H6002that which AmalekH6213did[H8804] H3478to IsraelH7760, how he laid[H8804] H1870wait for him in the wayH5927, when he came up[H8800] H4714from Egypt.

³ H3212Now go[H8798] H5221and smite[H8689] H6002AmalekH2763, and utterly destroy[H8689] H2550all that they have, and spare[H8799] H4191them not; but slay[H8689] H376both manH802and womanH5768, infantH3243and suckling[H8802] H7794, oxH7716and sheepH1581, camelH2543and ass.

⁴ H7586And SaulH8085gatheredH5971the peopleH8085together[H8762] H6485, and numbered[H8799] H2923them in TelaimH3967, two hundredH505thousandH7273footmenH6235, and tenH505thousandH376menH3063of Judah.

⁵ H7586And SaulH935came[H8799] H5892to a cityH6002of AmalekH7378, and laid wait[H8799] H693 [H8686] H5158in the valley.

⁶ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H7017unto the KenitesH3212, Go[H8798] H5493, depart[H8798] H3381, get you down[H8798] H8432from amongH6002the AmalekitesH622, lest I destroy[H8799] H6213you with them: for ye shewed[H8804] H2617kindnessH1121to all the childrenH3478of IsraelH5927, when they came up[H8800] H4714out of EgyptH7017. So the KenitesH5493departed[H8799] H8432from amongH6003the Amalekites.

⁷ H7586And SaulH5221smote[H8686] H6002the AmalekitesH2341from HavilahH935until thou comest[H8800] H7793to ShurH6440, that is over againstH4714Egypt.

⁸ H8610And he took[H8799] H90AgagH4428the kingH6002of the AmalekitesH2416aliveH2763, and utterly destroyed[H8689] H5971all the peopleH6310with the edgeH2719of the sword.

⁹ H7586But SaulH5971and the peopleH2550spared[H8799] H90AgagH4315, and the bestH6629of the sheepH1241, and of the oxenH4932, and of the fatlingsH3733, and the lambsH2896, and all that was goodH14, and would[H8804] H2763not utterly destroy[H8687] H4399them: but every thingH5240that was vileH4549and refuse[H8738] H2763, that they destroyed utterly[H8689] .

¹¹ H5162It repenteth[H8738] H4427me that I have set up[H8689] H7586SaulH4428to be kingH7725: for he is turned back[H8804] H310from followingH6965me, and hath not performed[H8689] H1697my commandmentsH2734. And it grieved[H8799] H8050SamuelH2199; and he cried[H8799] H3068unto the LORDH3915all night.

¹² H8050And when SamuelH7925rose early[H8686] H7125to meet[H8800] H7586SaulH1242in the morningH5046, it was told[H8714] H8050SamuelH559, saying[H8800] H7586, SaulH935came[H8804] H3760to CarmelH5324, and, behold, he set him up[H8688] H3027a placeH5437, and is gone about[H8735] H5674, and passed on[H8799] H3381, and gone down[H8799] H1537to Gilgal.

¹³ H8050And SamuelH935came[H8799] H7586to SaulH7586: and SaulH559said[H8799] H1288unto him, Blessed[H8803] H3068be thou of the LORDH6965: I have performed[H8689] H1697the commandmentH3068of the LORD.

¹⁴ H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H6963, What meaneth then this bleatingH6629of the sheepH241in mine earsH6963, and the lowingH1241of the oxenH8085which I hear[H8802] ?

¹⁵ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H935, They have brought[H8689] H6003them from the AmalekitesH5971: for the peopleH2550spared[H8804] H4315the bestH6629of the sheepH1241and of the oxenH2076, to sacrifice[H8800] H3068unto the LORDH430thy GodH3498; and the rest[H8802] H2763we have utterly destroyed[H8689] .

¹⁶ H8050Then SamuelH559said[H8799] H7586unto SaulH7503, Stay[H8685] H5046, and I will tell[H8686] H3068thee what the LORDH1696hath said[H8765] H3915to me this nightH559. And he said[H8799] H1696unto him, Say on[H8761] .

¹⁷ H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H6996, When thou wast littleH5869in thine own sightH7218, wast thou not made the headH7626of the tribesH3478of IsraelH3068, and the LORDH4886anointed[H8799] H4428thee kingH3478over Israel?

¹⁸ H3068And the LORDH7971sent[H8799] H1870thee on a journeyH559, and said[H8799] H3212, Go[H8798] H2763and utterly destroy[H8689] H2400the sinnersH6002the AmalekitesH3898, and fight[H8738] H3615against them until they be consumed[H8763] .

¹⁹ H8085Wherefore then didst thou not obey[H8804] H6963the voiceH3068of the LORDH5860, but didst fly[H8799] H7998upon the spoilH6213, and didst[H8799] H7451evilH5869in the sightH3068of the LORD?

²⁰ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H8050unto SamuelH8085, Yea, I have obeyed[H8804] H6963the voiceH3068of the LORDH3212, and have gone[H8799] H1870the wayH3068which the LORDH7971sent[H8804] H935me, and have brought[H8686] H90AgagH4428the kingH6002of AmalekH2763, and have utterly destroyed[H8689] H6002the Amalekites.

²¹ H5971But the peopleH3947took[H8799] H7998of the spoilH6629, sheepH1241and oxenH7225, the chiefH2764of the things which should have been utterly destroyedH2076, to sacrifice[H8800] H3068unto the LORDH430thy GodH1537in Gilgal.

²² H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H3068, Hath the LORDH2656as great delightH5930in burnt offeringsH2077and sacrificesH8085, as in obeying[H8800] H6963the voiceH3068of the LORDH8085? Behold, to obey[H8800] H2896is betterH2077than sacrificeH7181, and to hearken[H8687] H2459than the fatH352of rams.

²³ H4805For rebellionH2403is as the sinH7081of witchcraftH6484, and stubbornness[H8687] H205is as iniquityH8655and idolatryH3988. Because thou hast rejected[H8804] H1697the wordH3068of the LORDH3988, he hath also rejected[H8799] H4428thee from being king.

²⁴ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H8050unto SamuelH2398, I have sinned[H8804] H5674: for I have transgressed[H8804] H6310the commandmentH3068of the LORDH1697, and thy wordsH3372: because I feared[H8804] H5971the peopleH8085, and obeyed[H8799] H6963their voice.

²⁵ H5375Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon[H8798] H2403my sinH7725, and turn again[H8798] H7812with me, that I may worship[H8691] H3068the LORD.

²⁶ H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H7586unto SaulH7725, I will not return[H8799] H3988with thee: for thou hast rejected[H8804] H1697the wordH3068of the LORDH3068, and the LORDH3988hath rejected[H8799] H4428thee from being kingH3478over Israel.

²⁷ H8050And as SamuelH5437turned about[H8735] H3212to go away[H8800] H2388, he laid hold[H8686] H3671upon the skirtH4598of his mantleH7167, and it rent[H8735] .

²⁸ H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H3068unto him, The LORDH7167hath rent[H8804] H4468the kingdomH3478of IsraelH3117from thee this dayH5414, and hath given[H8804] H7453it to a neighbourH2896of thine, that is better than thou.

²⁹ H5331And also the StrengthH3478of IsraelH8266will not lie[H8762] H5162nor repent[H8735] H120: for he is not a manH5162, that he should repent[H8736] .

³⁰ H559Then he said[H8799] H2398, I have sinned[H8804] H3513: yet honour[H8761] H2205me now, I pray thee, before the eldersH5971of my peopleH3478, and before IsraelH7725, and turn again[H8798] H7812with me, that I may worship[H8694] H3068the LORDH430thy God.

³¹ H8050So SamuelH7725turned again[H8799] H310afterH7586SaulH7586; and SaulH7812worshipped[H8691] H3068the LORD.

³² H559Then said[H8799] H8050SamuelH5066, Bring ye hither[H8685] H90to me AgagH4428the kingH6002of the AmalekitesH90. And AgagH3212came[H8799] H4574unto him delicatelyH90. And AgagH559said[H8799] H403, SurelyH4751the bitternessH4194of deathH5493is past[H8804] .

³³ H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H2719, As thy swordH802hath made womenH7921childless[H8765] H517, so shall thy motherH7921be childless[H8799] H802among womenH8050. And SamuelH8158hewedH90AgagH8158in pieces[H8762] H6440beforeH3068the LORDH1537in Gilgal.

³⁴ H8050Then SamuelH3212went[H8799] H7414to RamahH7586; and SaulH5927went up[H8804] H1004to his houseH1390to GibeahH7586of Saul.

³⁵ H8050And SamuelH3254came no more[H8804] H7200to see[H8800] H7586SaulH3117until the dayH4194of his deathH3588: neverthelessH8050SamuelH56mourned[H8694] H7586for SaulH3068: and the LORDH5162repented[H8738] H7586that he had made SaulH4427king[H8689] H3478over Israel.
