Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Efrayim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley of those who are overcome with wine!
For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them:
transgressing and denying the LORD, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and uprightness can't enter.
We would have healed Bavel, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go everyone into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
Your elder sister is Shomron, who dwells at your left hand, she and her daughters; and your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sedom and her daughters.
The names of them were Oholah the elder, and Oholivah her sister: and they became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Shomron is Oholah, and Yerushalayim Oholivah.
In your filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed you and you weren't cleansed, you shall not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.
The inhabitants of Shomron will be in terror for the calves of Beit-Aven; for its people will mourn over it, Along with its Kohanim who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
Efrayim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Yisra'el with deceit. Yehudah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.
*How can I give you up, Efrayim? How can I hand you over, Yisra'el? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Tzevoyim? My heart is turned within me, my compassion is aroused.
Efrayim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Ashur, and oil is carried into Egypt.
The LORD also has a controversy with Yehudah, and will punish Ya`akov according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him.
There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.
*Listen to this, you Kohanim! Listen, house of Yisra'el, and give ear, house of the king! For the judgment is against you; for you have been a snare at Mitzpah, and a net spread on Tavor.
*Efrayim, what shall I do to you? Yehudah, what shall I do to you? For your love is like a morning cloud, and like the dew that disappears early.
Woe to them! For they have wandered from me. Destruction to them! For they have trespassed against me. Though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against me.
Let Shomron throw out his calf idol! My anger burns against them! How long will it be until they are capable of purity?
For they have gone up to Ashur, like a wild donkey wandering alone. Efrayim has hired lovers for himself.
*Indeed they don't know to do right,* says the LORD, *Who hoard plunder and loot in their palaces.*
Proclaim in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, *Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Shomron, and see what unrest is in her, and what oppression is among them.*
Those who swear by the sin of Shomron, and say, 'As your god, Dan, lives;' and, 'As the way of Be'er-Sheva lives;' they will fall, and never rise up again.*
For the statutes of `Omri 1 are kept, and all the works of the house of Ach'av. You walk in their counsels, that I may make you a ruin, and her inhabitants a hissing; And you will bear the reproach of my people.*
*Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
*Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!
saying, *If you, even you, had known today the things which belong to your shalom! But now, they are hidden from your eyes.
