Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.


There came against the land Pul the king of Ashur; and Menachem gave Pul one thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand.


Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Yehudah, and made the inhabitants of Yerushalayim to play the prostitute, and led Yehudah astray.


*Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge, and fill himself with the east wind?


But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.


Why go you about so much to change your way? you shall be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Ashur.


The wind shall feed all your shepherds, and your lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shall you be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness.


I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brothers, even the whole seed of Efrayim.


We have given the hand to the Egyptians, To the Ashur, to be satisfied with bread.


Yes, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew.


Efrayim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Yisra'el with deceit. Yehudah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.


I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Efrayim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you; and I will not come in wrath.


*Though you, Yisra'el, play the prostitute, yet don't let Yehudah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beit-Aven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.'


The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.


*When Efrayim saw his sickness, and Yehudah his wound, Then Efrayim went to Ashur, and sent to king Yarev: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound.


When I would heal Yisra'el, then the iniquity of Efrayim is uncovered, also the wickedness of Shomron; for they commit falsehood, and the thief enters in, and the gang of robbers ravages outside.


*Efrayim is like an easily deceived dove, without understanding. They call to Egypt. They go to Ashur.


For they sow the wind, and they will reap the whirlwind. He has no standing grain. The stalk will yield no head. If it does yield, strangers will swallow it up.
