He was hurt and punished. But he never protested. He said nothing—like a sheep being taken to be killed. He was like a lamb that makes no sound when someone cuts off its wool. He never opened his mouth \{to defend himself\}.
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, {\cf2\super [229]} the Son of the living God.”
And a voice spoke from heaven. The voice said, “This (Jesus) is my Son and I love him. I am very pleased with him.”
The two men came to Jesus and shouted, “What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to punish us before the right time?”
Then the high priest {\cf2\super [216]} stood before all the people and said to Jesus, “These people said things against you. Do you have something to say about these charges against you? Are these people telling the truth?”
The Jewish leaders gathered around Jesus. They said, “How long will you make us wonder about you? If you are the Christ, {\cf2\super [168]} then tell us clearly.”
So why do you say that I am saying things that are against God because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? I am the one God chose and sent into the world.
The Jewish leaders answered, “We have a law that says he must die, because he said that he is the Son of God.”
Pilate went back inside the palace. He asked Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus did not answer him.
The part of Scripture {\cf2\super [177]} that he was reading was this:
That teaching is part of the Good News {\cf2\super [4]} that God gave me to tell. That glorious Good News is from the blessed God.
God will make that happen at the right time. God is the blessed and only Ruler. God is the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords (rulers).
People said bad things to Christ, but he did not say bad things to them. Christ suffered, but he did not threaten (speak against) the people. No! Christ let God take care of him. God is the One who judges rightly.
