I can’t go back to my father if the boy is not with me. I am very afraid of what would happen to my father.”


The Lord All-Powerful said, “I will soon punish those men from Anathoth. Their young men will die in war. Their sons and daughters will die from hunger.


And the people those prophets spoke to will be thrown into the streets. Those people will die from hunger and from an enemy’s sword. No person will be there to bury those people, or their wives or their sons or daughters. I will punish them.


If I go into the country,\par I see the people that were killed\par with swords.\par If I go into the city,\par I see much sickness,\par because the people have no food.\par The priests and the prophets\par have been taken away to a foreign land.’”\par


The enemy will bring its army around the city. That army will not let people go out to get food. So the people in the city will begin to starve. They will become so hungry that they will eat the bodies of their own sons and daughters. And then they will begin to eat each other.’


Now Jerusalem says,\par “I refused to listen to the Lord.\par So the Lord is right for doing these things.\par So listen, all you people!\par Look at my pain!\par My young women and men\par have gone into captivity.\par


My eyes are worn out with tears!\par My insides are upset!\par My heart feels like it has been poured\par on the ground!\par I feel this way because of the destruction\par of my people.\par Children and babies are fainting.\par They are fainting in the public squares\par of the city.\par


Young men and old men\par lie on the ground in the streets\par of the city.\par My young women and young men\par have been killed by the sword.\par You, Lord, killed them on the day\par of your anger!\par You killed them without mercy!\par


I will continue to cry\par until you look down and see us, Lord!\par I will continue to cry\par until you see us from heaven!\par


Those people were my enemies\par for no good reason,\par but they hunted me like a bird.\par


The enemy raped the women of Zion. {\cf2\super [35]} \par They raped the women\par in the cities of Judah.\par
