Then the man said, “Your name will not be Jacob. Your name will now be Israel. [191] I give you this name because you have fought with God and with men, and you have not been defeated.”
God said to Jacob, “Your name is Jacob. But I will change that name. You will not be called Jacob now. Your new name will be Israel. [207] ” So God named him Israel.
The Lord sent word through Nathan the prophet. Nathan gave Solomon the name, Jedidiah. [68] Nathan did this for the Lord.

Those are the names of the men that Moses sent to look at and study the land. (Moses called Hoshea son of Nun by another name. Moses called him Joshua.)
Then Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at Simon and said, “You are Simon, the son of John. You will be called Cephas.” (“Cephas” means “Peter. {\cf2\super [29]} ”)
Like it is written \{in the Scriptures {\cf2\super [43]} \} “I have made you (Abraham) a father of many nations.” {\cf2\super [44]} This is true before God. Abraham believed in God—the God who gives life to dead people and decides that things will happen that have not yet happened.
