When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king: ‘Why have you torn your clothes? Have him come to me, and he will know there is a prophet in Israel.’


So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and told him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may worship me.


Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will you  refuse to keep my commands  and instructions?


Wash the evil from your heart,   Jerusalem, so that you will be delivered. How long will you harbour malicious thoughts?


The Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will these people despise me? How long will they not trust in me despite all the signs I have performed among them?


‘How long must I endure this evil community that keeps complaining about me? I have heard the Israelites’ complaints that they make against me.


‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.


He answered them,  ‘An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.


Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that person’s last condition is worse than the first.   That’s how it will also be with this evil generation.’

Truly I tell you, all these things will come on this generation.


When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees  coming to his baptism, he said to them, ‘Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?


When Jesus saw it, he was indignant  and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me.   Don’t stop   them, because the kingdom of God   belongs to such as these.


Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him.’ So they called the blind man and said to him, ‘Have courage!  Get up; he’s calling for you.’


He replied to them, ‘You unbelieving   generation, how long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to me.’


He said to them, ‘Where is your faith? ’ They were fearful and amazed, asking one another, ‘Who then is this?  He commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him! ’


I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn’t.’


As the boy was still approaching, the demon knocked him down and threw him into severe convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy,  and gave him back to his father.


Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father.   How can you say, “Show us the Father”?


Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and look at my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Don’t be faithless, but believe.’


And for about forty years he put up with them  in the wilderness;


With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, ‘Be saved from this corrupt  generation! ’


Or do you despise the riches of his kindness,  restraint,  and patience,  not recognising  that God’s kindness  is intended to lead you to repentance?


His people have acted corruptly towards him; this is their defect   #– #they are not his children but a devious and crooked generation.


So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.


Let us, then, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience.


For we also have received the good news just as they did. But the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith.  ,


Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede  for them.
