‘Whoever kidnaps a person must be put to death, whether he sells him or the person is found in his possession.


Dishonest scales are detestable to the  Lord, but an accurate weight is his delight.


‘Do not steal.  Do not act deceptively  or lie  to one another.


‘Do not oppress  your neighbour or rob  him. The wages due a hired worker  must not remain with you until morning.


The people are incapable of doing right   – this is the  Lord’s declaration – those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.


Both hands are good  at accomplishing evil: the official and the judge demand a bribe; when the powerful man communicates his evil desire, they plot it together.


For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies,   slander.


‘Which ones? ’ he asked him. Jesus answered: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness;


He said to them, ‘It is written, my house will be called a house of prayer,   but you are making it a den of thieves! ’   ,


He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief.  He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.


The commandments, Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal;   do not covet;   , and any other commandment, are summed up by this commandment: Love your neighbour as yourself.   ,


no thieves,  greedy  people, drunkards, verbally abusive people,  or swindlers  will inherit God’s kingdom.


Let the thief no longer steal. Instead, he is to do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share  with anyone in need.


‘If a man is discovered kidnapping  one of his Israelite brothers, whether he treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from you.


This means one must not transgress against and take advantage  of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offences, as we also previously told and warned you.
