Nothing is left for him to consume; therefore, his prosperity will not last.


We’ll find all kinds of valuable property and fill our houses with plunder.


A gracious woman gains honour, but violent  people gain only riches.


The evil do not understand justice, but those who seek the  Lord understand everything.


Again, I observed all the acts of oppression being done under the sun.  Look at the tears of those who are oppressed; they have no one to comfort them. Power is with those who oppress them; they have no one to comfort them.


‘For my people are fools; they do not know me. They are foolish children, without understanding. They are skilled in doing what is evil, but they do not know how to do what is good.’


Then I thought: They are just the poor; they have been foolish. For they don’t understand the way of the  Lord, the justice of their God.


He doesn’t oppress anyone  but returns his collateral to the debtor.  He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry  and covers the naked with clothing.


The people of the land have practised extortion and committed robbery.  They have oppressed the poor and needy and unlawfully exploited the resident foreigner.


And he said to me, ‘Do you see this, son of man? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the detestable acts they are doing here, that they must also fill the land with violence  and repeatedly anger me,  even putting the branch to their nose?


when I heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim  and the crimes of Samaria will be exposed. For they practise fraud; a thief breaks in; a raiding party pillages outside.


Listen to this message, you cows of Bashan who are on the hill of Samaria, women who oppress the poor and crush the needy, who say to their husbands, ‘Bring us something to drink.’


Those who turn justice into wormwood also throw righteousness to the ground.


Do horses gallop on the cliffs? Does anyone plough there with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood   –


You dismiss any thought of the evil day and bring in a reign of violence.


The Lord God has sworn by himself   #– #this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Armies: I loathe Jacob’s pride and hate his citadels, so I will hand over the city  and everything in it.


Are there still  the treasures of wickedness and the accursed short measure in the house of the wicked?


On that day  I will punish all who skip over the threshold,  , who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.


They deliberately overlook this: By the word of God  the heavens came into being long ago and the earth was brought about from water and through water.
