The one who oppresses the poor person insults his Maker, but one who is kind to the needy honours him.


Oppressing the poor to enrich oneself, and giving to the rich #– #both lead only to poverty.


Father and mother are treated with contempt,  and the resident foreigner is exploited within you. The fatherless and widow are oppressed in you.


‘Do not oppress  your neighbour or rob  him. The wages due a hired worker  must not remain with you until morning.


They trample the heads of the poor on the dust of the ground and obstruct the path of the needy. A man and his father have sexual relations with the same girl, profaning my holy name.


Listen to this message, you cows of Bashan who are on the hill of Samaria, women who oppress the poor and crush the needy, who say to their husbands, ‘Bring us something to drink.’


Hear this, you who trample on the needy and do away with the poor of the land,


‘I will come to you in judgement, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the hired worker, the widow, and the fatherless; and against those who deny justice to the resident foreigner.  They do not fear me,’  says the Lord of Armies.


Remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they offer, for the worker is worthy of his wages.   Don’t move from house to house.


‘If there is a poor person among you, one of your brothers within any of your city gates in the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tight-fisted towards your poor brother.


For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,   , and, ‘The worker is worthy of his wages.’
