When he heardaboutJesus,he sentsome JewisheldersaskingHim to comeand save the lifeof his slave.

When they cameto Jesus,they earnestlyimploredHim, saying,"He is worthyfor You to grantthisto him;

for this reasonI did not evenconsidermyselfworthyto cometo You, but [just] saythe word, and my servantwill be healed.

"For I alsoama manplaced underauthority, with soldiersunderme; and I sayto this one,'Go!'and he goes, and to another,'Come!'and he comes, and to my slave,'Dothis!'and he doesit."

Nowwhen Jesusheardthis,He marveledat him, and turnedand saidto the crowdthat was followingHim, "I sayto you, not evenin Israelhave I foundsuch greatfaith."

When thosewho had been sentreturnedto the house, they foundthe slavein good health.

SoonafterwardsHe wentto a citycalledNain;and His discipleswere going alongwith Him, accompaniedby a largecrowd.

Nowas He approachedthe gateof the city,a deadman was being carriedout, the onlysonof his mother, and she was a widow;and a sizeablecrowdfrom the citywas with her.

When the Lordsawher, He felt compassionfor her, and saidto her, "Do not weep."

And He cameup and touchedthe coffin;and the bearerscame to a halt. And He said,"Young man,I sayto you, arise!"

The dead mansatup and beganto speak. And [Jesus] gavehim back to his mother.

Feargrippedthem all,and they [began] glorifyingGod,saying,"A greatprophethas arisenamongus!" and, "Godhas visitedHis people!"

A Deputation from John

The disciplesof Johnreportedto him aboutallthese things.

Summoningtwoof his disciples,Johnsentthem to the Lord, saying,"Are You the ExpectedOne, ordo we lookfor someone else?"

When the mencameto Him, they said,"Johnthe Baptisthas sentus to You, to ask,Are You the ExpectedOne, ordo we lookfor someone else?'"

At that very timeHe curedmany[people] of diseasesand afflictionsand evilspirits;and He gavesightto many[who were] blind.

And He answeredand saidto them, "Goand reportto Johnwhatyou have seenand heard:[the] BLINDRECEIVE SIGHT,[the] lamewalk,[the] lepersare cleansed, and [the] deafhear,[the] deadare raisedup, [the] POORHAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHEDTO THEM.

"Blessedis he whodoes not takeoffense at Me."

When the messengersof Johnhad left,He beganto speakto the crowdsaboutJohn,"Whatdid you goout into the wildernessto see?A reedshakenby the wind?

"But whatdid you goout to see?A mandressedin softclothing?Thosewho are splendidlyclothedand livein luxuryare [found] in royal palaces!

"But whatdid you goout to see?A prophet?Yes,I sayto you, and one who is morethan a prophet.

"Thisis the one aboutwhomit is written,BEHOLD,I SENDMY MESSENGERAHEADOF YOU, WHOWILL PREPAREYOUR WAYBEFOREYOU.'

"I sayto you, amongthose bornof womenthere is no onegreaterthan John;yethe who is leastin the kingdomof Godis greaterthan he."

When allthe peopleand the tax collectorsheard[this], they acknowledgedGod'sjustice, having been baptizedwith the baptismof John.

But the Phariseesand the lawyersrejectedGod'spurposefor themselves, not having been baptizedby John.

"To whatthenshall I comparethe menof thisgeneration, and whatare they like?

"They are likechildrenwho sitin the market placeand callto one another, and they say,'We played the flutefor you, and you did not dance;we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.'

"For Johnthe Baptisthas comeeatingnobreadand drinkingnowine, and you say,'He hasa demon!'

"The Sonof Manhas comeeatingand drinking, and you say,'Behold,a gluttonousmanand a drunkard,a friendof tax collectorsand sinners!'

"Yetwisdomis vindicatedby allher children."

Nowoneof the Phariseeswas requestingHim to dinewith him, and He enteredthe Pharisee'shouseand reclined[at the table].

And there was a womanin the citywhowas a sinner;and when she learnedthat He was reclining[at the table] in the Pharisee'shouse, she broughtan alabaster vialof perfume,

and standingbehind[Him] at His feet, weeping, she beganto wetHis feetwith her tears, and kept wipingthem with the hairof her head, and kissingHis feetand anointingthem with the perfume.

Nowwhen the Phariseewho had invitedHim sawthis, he saidto himself,"Ifthis manwere a prophetHe would knowwhoand what sort of personthiswomanis whois touchingHim, that she is a sinner."

Parable of Two Debtors

And Jesusansweredhim, "Simon,I havesomethingto sayto you." And he replied,"Sayit, Teacher."

"A moneylenderhadtwodebtors:oneowedfive hundreddenarii,and the otherfifty.

"When they were unableto repay,he graciously forgavethem both.Sowhichof them will lovehim more?"

Simonansweredand said,"I supposethe one whomhe forgavemore."And He saidto him, "You have judgedcorrectly."

Turningtowardthe woman,He saidto Simon,"Do you seethiswoman?I enteredyour house;you gaveMe nowaterfor My feet, but she has wetMy feetwith her tearsand wipedthem with her hair.

"You gaveMe nokiss;but she, sincethe time I camein, has not ceasedto kissMy feet.

"You did not anointMy headwith oil,but she anointedMy feetwith perfume.

"For thisreasonI sayto you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she lovedmuch;but he whois forgivenlittle, loveslittle."

ThenHe saidto her, "Your sinshave been forgiven."

Thosewho were reclining[at the table] with Him beganto sayto themselves,"Whois this[man] whoevenforgivessins?"

And He saidto the woman,"Your faithhas savedyou; goin peace."
