I amunder obligationbothto Greeksand to barbarians,bothto the wiseand to the foolish.
"Howlong,O naiveones,will you lovebeing simple-minded?And scoffersdelightthemselves in scoffingAnd foolshateknowledge?
"O naiveones,understandprudence;And, O fools,understandwisdom.
A highwaywill be there,a roadway,And it will be calledthe Highwayof Holiness.The uncleanwill not travelon it, But it [will] be for him who walks[that] way,And foolswill not wander[on it].
At that timeJesussaid,"I praiseYou, Father,Lordof heavenand earth,that You have hiddenthese thingsfrom [the] wiseand intelligentand have revealedthem to infants.
At that verytimeHe rejoiced greatlyin the HolySpirit,and said,"I praiseYou, O Father,Lordof heavenand earth,that You have hiddenthese thingsfrom [the] wiseand intelligentand have revealedthem to infants.Yes,Father,for this waywas well-pleasingin Your sight.
"And He saidto me, 'Go!For I will sendyou farawayto the Gentiles.'"
The nativesshowedus extraordinarykindness;for becauseof the rainthat had setin and becauseof the cold,they kindleda fireand receivedus all.
Whenthe nativessawthe creaturehangingfrom his hand,they [began] sayingto one another,"Undoubtedlythismanis a murderer,and though he has been savedfrom the sea,justicehas not allowedhim to live."
But the Lordsaidto him, "Go,for he is a choseninstrumentof Mine,to bearMy namebeforethe Gentilesand kingsand the sonsof Israel;
Professingto be wise,they became fools,
For I do not wantyou, brethren,to be uninformedof thismystery--sothat you will not be wisein your own estimation--that a partialhardeninghas happenedto Israeluntilthe fullnessof the Gentileshas comein;
Be of the samemindtowardone another;do not be haughtyin mind,but associatewith the lowly.Do not be wisein your own estimation.
Owenothingto anyoneexceptto loveone another;for he who loveshis neighborhas fulfilled[the] law.
For the report of your obediencehas reachedto all;thereforeI am rejoicingoveryou, but I wantyou to be wisein what is goodand innocentin what is evil.
So then,brethren,we are under obligation,not to the flesh,to liveaccordingto the flesh--
IfthenI do not knowthe meaningof the language,I will be to the one who speaksa barbarian,and the one who speakswill be a barbarianto me.
Otherwiseifyou blessin the spirit[only], howwill the one who fillsthe placeof the ungiftedsaythe "Amen"at your giving of thanks,sincehe does not knowwhatyou are saying?
whichthings we alsospeak,not in wordstaughtby humanwisdom,but in those taughtby the Spirit,combiningspiritual[thoughts] with spiritual[words].
Let no mandeceivehimself.Ifany manamongyou thinksthat he is wisein thisage,he must becomefoolish,sothat he may becomewise.
For we are not boldto classorcompareourselveswith someof thosewho commendthemselves;but when they measurethemselvesby themselvesand comparethemselveswith themselves,they are withoutunderstanding.
For you, being[so] wise,toleratethe foolishgladly.
[a renewal] in whichthereis no[distinction between] Greekand Jew,circumcisedand uncircumcised,barbarian,Scythian,slaveand freeman,but Christis all,and in all.
For thisreasonI endureall thingsfor the sakeof thosewho are chosen,sothat they alsomay obtainthe salvationwhich is in ChristJesus[and] with [it] eternalglory.
For we alsooncewere foolishourselves,disobedient,deceived,enslavedto variouslustsand pleasures,spending our lifein maliceand envy,hateful,hatingone another.
