He openedthe bottomlesspit,and smokewentup out of the pit,likethe smokeof a greatfurnace;and the sunand the airwere darkenedby the smokeof the pit.
It cameabout when the sunhad set,that it was verydark,and behold,[there appeared] a smokingovenand a flamingtorchwhichpassedbetweenthesepieces.
and he lookeddowntowardSodomand Gomorrah,and towardallthe landof the valley,and he saw,and behold,the smokeof the landascendedlike the smokeof a furnace.
Now MountSinai[was] allin smokebecausethe LORDdescendedupon it in fire;and its smokeascendedlike the smokeof a furnace,and the wholemountainquakedviolently.
"Wail,O gate;cry,O city;Meltaway, O Philistia,allof you; For smokecomesfrom the north,And thereis nostragglerin his ranks.
"But whoeverdoes not falldownand worshipshall immediatelybe castinto the midstof a furnaceof blazingfire."
Beforethem the earthquakes,The heavenstremble,The sunand the moongrowdarkAnd the starslosetheir brightness.
A dayof darknessand gloom,A dayof cloudsand thickdarkness.As the dawnis spreadoverthe mountains,[So] there is a greatand mightypeople;There has neverbeen[anything] likeit, Norwill there be againafterit To the yearsof manygenerations.
"I will displaywondersin the skyand on the earth,Blood,fireand columnsof smoke.
AND I WILL GRANTWONDERSIN THE SKYABOVEAND SIGNSON THE EARTHBELOW,BLOOD,AND FIRE,AND VAPOROF SMOKE.
"And the smokeof their tormentgoesup foreverand ever;they havenorestdayand night,thosewho worshipthe beastand his image,and whoeverreceivesthe markof his name."
Thenthe fifth[angel] pouredout his bowlon the throneof the beast,and his kingdombecamedarkened;and they gnawedtheir tonguesbecauseof pain,
The fourthangelsounded,and a thirdof the sunand a thirdof the moonand a thirdof the starswere struck,sothat a thirdof them would be darkenedand the daywould not shinefor a thirdof it, and the nightin the same way.
Thenthe fifthangelsounded,and I sawa starfrom heavenwhich had fallento the earth;and the keyof the bottomlesspitwas givento him.
They haveas kingoverthem, the angelof the abyss;his namein Hebrewis Abaddon,and in the Greekhe hasthe nameApollyon.
And this is howI sawin the visionthe horsesand thosewho saton them: [the riders] hadbreastplates[the color] of fireand of hyacinthand of brimstone;and the headsof the horsesare likethe headsof lions;and out of their mouthsproceedfireand smokeand brimstone.
