Then Absalomsaidto Ahithophel,"Giveyour advice.Whatshall we do?"
Then Absalomand allthe menof Israelsaid,"The counselof Hushaithe Architeis betterthanthe counselof Ahithophel."For the LORDhad ordainedto thwartthe goodcounselof Ahithophel,sothat the LORDmight bringcalamityon Absalom.
He saysto himself,"Godhas forgotten;He has hiddenHis face;He will neverseeit."
Whyhas the wickedspurnedGod?He has saidto himself,"You will not require[it]."
The wicked,in the haughtinessof his countenance,does not seek[Him]. Allhis thoughtsare, "Thereis noGod."
The arrogantutterlyderideme, [Yet] I do not turnasidefrom Your law.
The arroganthave forgeda lieagainstme; With all[my] heartI will observeYour precepts.
The arroganthave dugpitsfor me, [Men] whoare not in accord with Your law.
Do allthe workersof wickednessnot know,Who eatup my people[as] they eatbread,[And] do not callupon the Lord?
The proudhave hiddena trapfor me, and cords;They have spreada netby the wayside;They have setsnaresfor me. Selah.
Transgressionspeaksto the ungodlywithinhis heart;Thereis nofearof Godbeforehis eyes.
Let not the footof pridecomeupon me, And let not the handof the wickeddriveme away.
For strangershave risenagainstme And violentmenhave soughtmy life;They have not setGodbeforethem. Selah.
He will recompensethe evilto my foes;Destroythem in Your faithfulness.
Then He saidto me, "Sonof man,do you seewhatthe eldersof the houseof Israelare committingin the dark,eachmanin the roomof his carvedimages?For they say,The LORDdoes not seeus; the LORDhas forsakenthe land.'"
Then He saidto me, "The iniquityof the houseof Israeland Judahis very,verygreat,and the landis filledwith bloodand the cityis fullof perversion;for they say,'The LORDhas forsakenthe land,and the LORDdoes not see!'
