Godhas spokenin His holiness:"I will exult,I will portionout Shechemand measureout the valleyof Succoth.
Abrampassedthroughthe landas faras the siteof Shechem,to the oakof Moreh.Now the Canaanite[was] thenin the land.
"Nowthen, do[it]! For the LORDhas spokenof David,saying,By the handof My servantDavidI will saveMy peopleIsraelfrom the handof the Philistinesand from the handof alltheir enemies.'"
I rejoiceat Your word,As one who findsgreatspoil.
The LORDhas swornto DavidA truthfrom which He will not turnback:"Of the fruitof your bodyI will setupon your throne.
In God,whose wordI praise,In GodI have putmy trust;I shall not be afraid.Whatcan [mere] mandoto me?
OnceYou spokein visionto Your godlyones,And said,"I have givenhelpto one whois mighty;I have exaltedone chosenfrom the people.
"OnceI have swornby My holiness;I will not lieto David.
As for the prophets:My heartis brokenwithinme, Allmy bonestremble;I have becomelike a drunkenman,Even like a manovercomewith wine,Becauseof the LORDAnd becauseof His holywords.
The LordGODhas swornby His holiness,"Behold,the daysare comingupon you When they will takeyou away with meathooks,And the lastof you with fishhooks.
"Be strongand courageous,for you shall givethispeoplepossessionof the landwhichI sworeto their fathersto givethem.
and in the valley,Beth-haramand Beth-nimrahand Succothand Zaphon,the restof the kingdomof Sihonkingof Heshbon,with the Jordanas a border,as faras the [lower] endof the Seaof Chinnerethbeyondthe Jordanto the east.
The borderof Manassehranfrom Asherto Michmethathwhichwas eastof Shechem;then the borderwentsouthwardto the inhabitantsof En-tappuah.
So they setapartKedeshin Galileein the hillcountryof Naphtaliand Shechemin the hillcountryof Ephraim,and Kiriath-arba(that is, Hebron)in the hillcountryof Judah.
Then Joshuagatheredallthe tribesof Israelto Shechem,and calledfor the eldersof Israeland for their headsand their judgesand their officers;and they presentedthemselves beforeGod.
Now they buriedthe bonesof Joseph,whichthe sonsof Israelbroughtup from Egypt,at Shechem,in the pieceof groundwhichJacobhad boughtfrom the sonsof Hamorthe fatherof Shechemfor one hundredpiecesof money;and they becamethe inheritanceof Joseph'ssons.
