The courierswentout impelledby the king'scommandwhile the decreewas issuedat the citadelin Susa;and while the kingand Hamansatdownto drink,the cityof Susawas in confusion.
Then Mordecaiwentout from the presenceof the kingin royalrobesof blueand white,with a largecrownof goldand a garmentof finelinenand purple;and the cityof Susashoutedand rejoiced.
Sothat godlessmenwould not ruleNorbe snaresof the people.
When it goes wellwith the righteous,the cityrejoices,And when the wickedperish,there is joyfulshouting.
When the righteoustriumph,there is greatglory,But when the wickedrise,menhidethemselves.
[Like] a roaringlionand a rushingbearIs a wickedrulerovera poorpeople.
When the wickedrise,menhidethemselves; But when they perish,the righteousincrease.
Thereis an evilI have seenunderthe sun,like an errorwhichgoesforthfrom the ruler--
follyis setin manyexaltedplaceswhile richmensitin humbleplaces.
Then I lookedagainat allthe actsof oppressionwhichwere being doneunderthe sun.And behold[I saw] the tearsof the oppressedand [that] they hadnooneto comfort[them]; and on the sideof their oppressorswas power,but they hadnooneto comfort[them].
Thenwhen Herodsawthat he had been trickedby the magi,he became veryenraged,and sentand slewallthe male childrenwho were in Bethlehemand allits vicinity,from two years oldand under,accordingto the timewhichhe had determinedfrom the magi.
When Herodthe kingheard[this], he was troubled,and allJerusalemwith him.
Thenthe seventhangelsounded;and there were loudvoicesin heaven,saying,"The kingdomof the worldhas become[the kingdom] of our Lordand of His Christ;and He will reignforeverand ever."
