For speakingout arrogant[words] of vanitythey enticeby fleshlydesires,by sensuality,thosewho barelyescapefrom the ones who livein error,
and [the meaning] of the tenhornsthat [were] on its headand the other[horn] whichcameup, and beforewhich three[of them] fell,namely, that hornwhich had eyesand a mouthutteringgreat[boasts] and which was largerin appearancethanits associates.
An arrogantman stirsup strife,But he who trustsin the LORDwill prosper.
He who sowsiniquitywill reapvanity,And the rodof his furywill perish.
"Proud,""Haughty,""Scoffer,"are his names,Who actswith insolentpride.
A fool'slipsbringstrife,And his mouthcallsfor blows.
My soulis amonglions;I must lieamong those who breatheforthfire,[Even] the sonsof men,whose teethare spearsand arrowsAnd their tonguea sharpsword.
May the LORDcutoffallflatteringlips,The tonguethat speaksgreatthings;
"You will be hiddenfrom the scourgeof the tongue,And you will not be afraidof violencewhenit comes.
"Boastnomoreso veryproudly,Do not let arrogancecomeout of your mouth;For the LORDis a Godof knowledge,And with Him actionsare weighed.
Let the lyinglipsbe mute,Which speakarrogantlyagainstthe righteousWith prideand contempt.
Where nooxenare, the mangeris clean,But muchrevenue[comes] by the strengthof the ox.
The one who guardshis mouthpreserveshis life;The one who openswidehis lipscomes to ruin.
A fool'smouthis his ruin,And his lipsare the snareof his soul.
