So Esauborea grudgeagainstJacobbecauseof the blessingwith whichhis fatherhad blessedhim; and Esausaidto himself,"The daysof mourningfor my fatherare near;then I will killmy brotherJacob."
The messengersreturnedto Jacob,saying,"We cameto your brotherEsau,and furthermorehe is comingto meetyou, and fourhundredmenare with him."
I am [for] peace,but whenI speak,They are for war.
Thussaysthe LORD,"For threetransgressionsof Edomand for fourI will not revokeits [punishment], Becausehe pursuedhis brotherwith the sword,While he stifledhis compassion;His angeralso torecontinually,And he maintainedhis furyforever.
Edom,however, saidto him, "You shall not passthroughus, orI will comeout with the swordagainstyou."
Thus Edomrefusedto allowIsraelto passthroughhis territory;so Israelturnedawayfrom him.
then Israelsentmessengersto the kingof Edom,saying,"Pleaselet us passthrough your land,"but the kingof Edomwould not listen.And they alsosentto the kingof Moab,but he would not consent.So Israelremainedat Kadesh.
But Sihondid not trustIsraelto passthrough his territory;so Sihongatheredallhis peopleand campedin Jahazand foughtwith Israel.
