When they had goneup into the Negev,they cameto HebronwhereAhiman,Sheshaiand Talmai,the descendantsof Anakwere. (Now Hebronwas builtsevenyearsbeforeZoanin Egypt.)
Then Abrammovedhis tentand cameand dweltby the oaksof Mamre,whichare in Hebron,and therehe builtan altarto the LORD.
Sarahdiedin Kiriath-arba(that is, Hebron)in the landof Canaan;and Abrahamwentin to mournfor Sarahand to weepfor her.
Then it cameabout afterwardsthat Davidinquiredof the LORD,saying,"Shall I goup to oneof the citiesof Judah?"And the LORDsaidto him, "Goup." So Davidsaid,"Whereshall I goup?" And He said,"To Hebron."
The timethat Davidwas kingin Hebronoverthe houseof Judahwas sevenyearsand sixmonths.
Then Ishbi-benob,whowas among the descendantsof the giant,the weightof whose spearwas threehundred[shekels] of bronzein weight,was girdedwith a new[sword], and he intendedto killDavid.
He wroughtwondersbeforetheir fathersIn the landof Egypt,in the fieldof Zoan.
WhenHe performedHis signsin EgyptAnd His marvelsin the fieldof Zoan,
The princesof Zoanare merefools;The adviceof Pharaoh'swisestadvisershas becomestupid.Howcan you [men] sayto Pharaoh,"I am a sonof the wise,a sonof ancientkings"?
The princesof Zoanhave actedfoolishly,The princesof Memphisare deluded;[Those who are] the cornerstoneof her tribesHave ledEgyptastray.
"For their princesare at ZoanAnd their ambassadorsarriveat Hanes.
When Mosessentthem to spyout the landof Canaan,he saidto them, "Goup thereinto the Negev;then goup into the hillcountry.
"Nevertheless,the peoplewho livein the landare strong,and the citiesare fortified[and] verylarge;and moreover,we sawthe descendantsof Anakthere.
"Therealso we sawthe Nephilim(the sonsof Anakare part of the Nephilim);and we becamelike grasshoppersin our own sight,and sowe were in their sight."
a peoplegreatand tall,the sonsof the Anakim,whomyou knowand of whomyou have heard[it said], 'Whocan standbeforethe sonsof Anak?'
Then Joshuaand allIsraelwith him wentup from Eglonto Hebron,and they foughtagainstit.
So to the sonsof Aaronthe priestthey gaveHebron,the cityof refugefor the manslayer,with its pasturelands,and Libnahwith its pasturelands,
So Judahwentagainstthe Canaaniteswho livedin Hebron(now the nameof Hebronformerly[was] Kiriath-arba);and they struckSheshaiand Ahimanand Talmai.
and to those whowere in Hebron,and to allthe placeswhereDavidhimselfand his menwere accustomed to go."
