He saidto them, "Becauseof your hardness of heartMosespermittedyou to divorceyour wives;but from the beginningit has not beenthis way.
For thisreasona manshall leavehis fatherand his mother,and be joinedto his wife;and they shall becomeoneflesh.
Then Noahand his sonsand his wifeand his sons'wiveswith him enteredthe arkbecauseof the waterof the flood.
Do not hardenyour hearts,as at Meribah,As in the dayof Massahin the wilderness,
Thussaysthe LORD,"Standby the waysand seeand askfor the ancientpaths,Wherethe goodwayis, and walkin it; And you will findrestfor your souls.But they said,'We will not walk[in it].'
"They madetheir hearts[like] flintsothat they could not hearthe lawand the wordswhichthe LORDof hostshad sentby His Spiritthroughthe formerprophets;therefore greatwrathcamefrom the LORDof hosts.
They saidto Him, "Whythendid Mosescommandto GIVEHER A CERTIFICATEOF DIVORCEAND SEND [her] AWAY?"
"And I sayto you, whoeverdivorceshis wife,exceptfor immorality,and marriesanother womancommits adultery."
But Jesusansweringsaidto him, "Permit[it] at this time;for in this wayit is fittingfor us to fulfillallrighteousness."Thenhe permittedHim.
The demons[began] to entreatHim, saying,"IfYou [are] [going to] castus out, sendus into the herdof swine."
But Jesussaidto them, "Becauseof your hardness of hearthe wroteyou thiscommandment.
AfterwardHe appearedto the eleventhemselvesas they were reclining[at the table]; and He reproachedthem for their unbeliefand hardness of heart,becausethey had not believedthosewho had seenHim after He had risen.
But thisI sayby wayof concession,not of command.
Davidhad also takenAhinoamof Jezreel,and they bothbecamehis wives.
