Then Jacobsaidto Simeonand Levi,"You have broughttroubleon me by makingme odiousamong the inhabitantsof the land,among the Canaanitesand the Perizzites;and my menbeing fewin number,they will gathertogether againstme and attackme and I will be destroyed,I and my household."
Now it was about threemonthslater that Judahwas informed,"Your daughter-in-lawTamarhas playedthe harlot,and behold,she is alsowith childby harlotry."Then Judahsaid,"Bringher out and let her be burned!"
The sonof Carmi[was] Achar,the troublerof Israel,whoviolatedthe ban.
Soare the waysof everyonewho gainsby violence;It takesaway the lifeof its possessors.
He who profitsillicitlytroubleshis own house,But he who hatesbribeswill live.
If [there is] a manwhomarriesa womanand her mother,it is immorality;both he and they shall be burnedwith fire,so that there will be noimmoralityin your midst.
"You shall also sayto the sonsof Israel:'Anymanfrom the sonsof Israelor from the alienssojourningin Israelwhogivesanyof his offspringto Molech,shall surelybe putto death;the peopleof the landshall stonehim with stones.

"Bringthe one who has cursedoutsidethe camp,and let allwho heardhim laytheir handson his head;then let allthe congregationstonehim.

"So you shall stonehim to deathbecausehe has soughtto seduceyou from the LORDyour Godwho broughtyou out from the landof Egypt,out of the houseof slavery.
"Then allIsraelwill hearand be afraid,and will neveragaindosucha wickedthingamongyou.
then you shall bringout that manorthat womanwhohas donethisevildeedto your gates,[that is], the manorthe woman,and you shall stonethem to death.
"Then allthe menof his cityshall stonehim to death;so you shall removethe evilfrom your midst,and allIsraelwill hear[of it] and fear.
For after allit is [only] justfor Godto repaywith afflictionthosewho afflictyou,
Seeto it that noonecomes shortof the graceof God;that norootof bitternessspringingup causes trouble,and by it manybe defiled;
"But as for you, onlykeepyourselves from the thingsunderthe ban,sothat you do not covet[them] and takesomeof the thingsunderthe ban,and makethe campof Israelaccursedand bringtroubleon it.
It shall be that the one who is takenwith the thingsunderthe banshall be burnedwith fire,he and allthat belongs to him, becausehe has transgressedthe covenantof the LORD,and becausehe has committeda disgracefulthingin Israel.'"
Then Jonathansaid,"My fatherhas troubledthe land.Seenow,howmy eyeshave brightenedbecauseI tasteda littleof thishoney.
