also halfof Gilead,with Ashtarothand Edrei,the citiesof the kingdomof Ogin Bashan,[were] for the sonsof Machirthe sonof Manasseh,for halfof the sonsof Machiraccording to their families.
To the sonsof Gershom[were given], from the familyof the half-tribeof Manasseh:Golanin Bashanwith its pasturelandsand Ashtarothwith its pasturelands;
"Gileadis Mine, and Manassehis Mine; Ephraimalso is the helmetof My head;Judahis My scepter.
"Besidethe borderof Naphtali,from the eastsideto the westside,Manasseh,one[portion].
and the territoryof Ogkingof Bashan,one of the remnantof Rephaim,who livedat Ashtarothand at Edrei,
allthe kingdomof Ogin Bashan,whoreignedin Ashtarothand in Edrei(he alone was leftof the remnantof the Rephaim);for Mosesstruckthem and dispossessedthem.
Theseare [the territories] whichMosesapportionedfor an inheritancein the plainsof Moab,beyondthe Jordanat Jerichoto the east.
Thus there felltenportionsto Manasseh,besidesthe landof Gileadand Bashan,whichis beyondthe Jordan,
becausethe daughtersof Manassehreceivedan inheritanceamonghis sons.And the landof Gileadbelongedto the restof the sonsof Manasseh.
and allthat He didto the twokingsof the Amoriteswhowere beyondthe Jordan,to Sihonkingof Heshbonand to Ogkingof Bashanwhowas at Ashtaroth.
Then the sonsof Israelagaindidevilin the sightof the LORD,servedthe Baalsand the Ashtaroth,the godsof Aram,the godsof Sidon,the godsof Moab,the godsof the sonsof Ammon,and the godsof the Philistines;thus they forsookthe LORDand did not serveHim.
"Gileadremainedacrossthe Jordan;And whydid Danstayin ships?Ashersatat the seashore,And remainedby its landings.
"They criedout to the LORDand said,'We have sinnedbecausewe have forsakenthe LORDand have servedthe Baalsand the Ashtaroth;but nowdeliverus from the handsof our enemies,and we will serveYou.'
Then Samuelspoketo allthe houseof Israel,saying,"Ifyou returnto the LORDwith allyour heart,removethe foreigngodsand the Ashtarothfrom amongyou and directyour heartsto the LORDand serveHim alone;and He will deliveryou from the handof the Philistines."
