Then the sailorsbecameafraidand everymancriedto his god,and they threwthe cargowhichwas in the shipinto the seato lighten[it] for them. But Jonahhad gonebelowinto the holdof the ship,laindownand fallensoundasleep.
Then they tookthe oxwhichwas giventhem and they preparedit and calledon the nameof Baalfrom morninguntilnoonsaying,"O Baal,answerus." But therewas novoiceand nooneanswered.And they leapedaboutthe altarwhichthey made.
Satanansweredthe LORDand said,"Skinfor skin!Yes, allthat a manhas he will givefor his life.
For He spokeand raisedup a stormywind,Which liftedup the wavesof the sea.
Fireand hail,snowand clouds;Stormywind,fulfillingHis word;
A timeto searchand a timeto giveup as lost;A timeto keepand a timeto throwaway.
"Gatheryourselves and come;Drawneartogether,you fugitivesof the nations;They havenoknowledge,Who carryabout their woodenidolAnd prayto a godwho cannotsave.
"But whereare your godsWhichyou madefor yourself? Let them arise,ifthey can saveyou In the timeof your trouble;For [according to] the numberof your citiesAre your gods,O Judah.
And they do not cryto Me from their heartWhenthey wailon their beds;For the sakeof grainand newwinethey assemblethemselves, They turnawayfrom Me.
Then they calledon the LORDand said,"We earnestlypray,OLORD,do not let us perishon account of thisman'slifeand do not putinnocentbloodon us; for You, O LORD,have doneas You have pleased."
Then the menfearedthe LORDgreatly,and they offereda sacrificeto the LORDand madevows.
So the captainapproachedhim and said,"Howis it that you are sleeping?Getup, callon your god.Perhaps[your] godwill be concernedabout us so that we will not perish."
"Nowwhile the bridegroomwas delaying,they allgot drowsyand [began] to sleep.
AgainHe cameand foundthem sleeping,for their eyeswere heavy.
ThenHe cameto the disciplesand saidto them, "Are you stillsleepingand resting?Behold,the houris at handand the Sonof Manis being betrayedinto the handsof sinners.
When they had eaten enough,they [began] to lightenthe shipby throwingout the wheatinto the sea.
She made him sleepon her knees,and calledfor a manand had him shaveoffthe sevenlocksof his hair.Then she beganto afflicthim, and his strengthlefthim.
He cameto the sheepfoldson the way,wherethere[was] a cave;and Saulwentin to relievehimself. Now Davidand his menwere sittingin the innerrecessesof the cave.
