"Ifindeedyou vauntyourselves againstme And provemy disgraceto me,
They saidto me, "The remnanttherein the provincewhosurvivedthe captivityare in greatdistressand reproach,and the wallof Jerusalemis brokendownand its gatesare burnedwith fire."
"Evenif I have trulyerred,My errorlodgeswith me.
Let those be ashamedand humiliatedaltogetherwho rejoiceat my distress;Let those be clothedwith shameand dishonorwho magnifythemselves overme.
For I said,"May they not rejoiceover me, [Who], when my footslips,would magnifythemselves againstme."
By thisI knowthat You are pleasedwith me, Becausemy enemydoes not shoutin triumphoverme.
For it is not an enemywho reproachesme, Then I could bear[it]; Noris it one who hatesme who has exaltedhimself againstme, Then I could hidemyself from him.
But it is you, a manmy equal,My companionand my familiarfriend;
For sevenwomenwill takeholdof onemanin that day,saying,"We will eatour own breadand wearour own clothes,onlylet us be calledby your name;takeawayour reproach!"
Do not rejoiceover me, O my enemy.ThoughI fallI will rise;ThoughI dwellin darkness,the LORDis a lightfor me.
Thisthey will have in returnfor their pride,becausethey have tauntedand becomearrogantagainstthe peopleof the LORDof hosts.
"The LORDalso will savethe tentsof Judahfirst,sothat the gloryof the houseof Davidand the gloryof the inhabitantsof Jerusalemwill not be magnifiedaboveJudah.
"This is the waythe Lordhas dealtwith me in the dayswhenHe looked[with favor] upon [me], to take awaymy disgraceamongmen."
And His disciplesaskedHim, "Rabbi,whosinned,this manorhis parents,that he would be bornblind?"
They answeredhim, "You were bornentirelyin sins,and are you teachingus?" Sothey puthim out.
Her rival,however, would provokeher bitterlyto irritateher, becausethe LORDhad closedher womb.
