"[Men] will claptheir handsat him And will hisshim from his place.
To maketheir landa desolation,[An object of] perpetualhissing;Everyonewho passesby it will be astonishedAnd shakehis head.
"I will also makethiscitya desolationand an [object of] hissing;everyonewho passesby it will be astonishedand hissbecauseof allits disasters.
Then it will be when seventyyearsare completedI will punishthe kingof Babylonand that nation,'declaresthe LORD,'for their iniquity,and the landof the Chaldeans;and I will makeit an everlastingdesolation.
Behold,I am going to command,'declaresthe LORD,'and I will bringthem backto thiscity;and they will fightagainstit and takeit and burnit with fire;and I will makethe citiesof Judaha desolationwithoutinhabitant.'"

So the landquakesand writhes,For the purposesof the LORDagainstBabylonstand,To makethe landof BabylonA desolationwithoutinhabitants.
"Babylonwill becomea heap[of ruins], a hauntof jackals,An objectof horrorand hissing,withoutinhabitants.
and say,'You, O LORD,have promisedconcerningthisplaceto cutit off,so that there will be nothingdwellingin it, whethermanor beast,but it will be a perpetualdesolation.'
The merchantsamong the peopleshissat you; You have becometerrifiedAnd you will ceaseto be forever.'"'"
