Thereforethussaysthe LORDin regardto Jehoiakimthe sonof Josiah,kingof Judah,"They will not lamentfor him: 'Alas,my brother!'or, 'Alas,sister!'They will not lamentfor him: 'Alasfor the master!'or, 'Alasfor his splendor!'
"I am distressedfor you, my brotherJonathan;You have been verypleasantto me. Your loveto me was morewonderfulThanthe loveof women.
He laidhis bodyin his own grave,and they mournedoverhim, [saying], "Alas,my brother!"
Jehoiakimwas twenty-fiveyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedelevenyearsin Jerusalem;and his mother'sname[was] Zebidahthe daughterof Pedaiahof Rumah.
He broughtout the Asherahfrom the houseof the LORDoutsideJerusalemto the brookKidron,and burnedit at the brookKidron,and ground[it] to dust,and threwits duston the gravesof the commonpeople.
So Jehoiakimsleptwith his fathers,and Jehoiachinhis sonbecamekingin his place.
The sonsof Josiah[were] Johananthe firstborn,and the second[was] Jehoiakim,the thirdZedekiah,the fourthShallum.
Then Jeremiahchanteda lamentfor Josiah.And allthe male and female singersspeakaboutJosiahin their lamentationsto this day.And they madethem an ordinancein Israel;behold,they are also writtenin the Lamentations.
Jehoiakimwas twenty-fiveyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedelevenyearsin Jerusalem;and he didevilin the sightof the LORDhis God.
"They will dieof deadlydiseases,they will not be lamentedor buried;they will be as dungon the surfaceof the groundand cometo an endby swordand famine,and their carcasseswill becomefoodfor the birdsof the skyand for the beastsof the earth."
"Both greatmenand smallwill diein thisland;they will not be buried,they will not be lamented,norwill anyone gashhimself or shavehis headfor them.
"Then [say] to the householdof the kingof Judah,'Hearthe wordof the LORD,
Do not weepfor the deador mournfor him, [But] weepcontinuallyfor the one who goesaway; For he will neverreturnOr seehis nativeland.
but in the placewherethey ledhim captive,therehe will dieand not seethislandagain.
You will diein peace;and as [spices] were burnedfor your fathers,the formerkingswhowere beforeyou, sothey will burn[spices] for you; and they will lamentfor you, "Alas,lord!"'For I have spokenthe word,"declaresthe LORD.
Thereforethussaysthe LORDconcerningJehoiakimkingof Judah,"He shall havenoone to siton the throneof David,and his deadbodyshall be castout to the heatof the dayand the frostof the night.
