You askand do not receive,becauseyou askwith wrong motives,sothat you may spend[it] on your pleasures.
Godsaidto him, "Becauseyou have askedthisthingand have not askedfor yourself longlife,norhave askedrichesfor yourself, norhave you askedfor the lifeof your enemies,but have askedfor yourself discernmentto understandjustice,
"Therethey cryout, but He does not answerBecauseof the prideof evilmen.
They criedfor help,but therewas noneto save,[Even] to the LORD,but He did not answerthem.
"Thenthey will callon me, but I will not answer;They will seekme diligentlybut they will not findme,
The sacrificeof the wickedis an abominationto the LORD,But the prayerof the uprightis His delight.
He who shutshis earto the cryof the poorWill alsocryhimselfand not be answered.
The sacrificeof the wickedis an abomination,Howmuchmorewhenhe bringsit with evilintent!
Thereforethussaysthe LORD,"BeholdI am bringingdisasteron them whichthey will not be ableto escape;though they will cryto Me, yet I will not listento them.
"Therefore do not prayfor thispeople,norliftup a cryor prayerfor them; for I will not listenwhenthey callto Me becauseof their disaster.
"Whenthey fast,I am not going to listento their cry;and whenthey offerburntofferingand grain offering,I am not going to acceptthem. RatherI am going to makean endof them by the sword,famineand pestilence."
Thenthey will cryout to the LORD,But He will not answerthem. Instead, He will hideHis facefrom them at that timeBecausethey have practicedevildeeds.
"And justas He calledand they would not listen,sothey calledand I would not listen,"saysthe LORDof hosts;
But Jesusanswered,"You do not knowwhatyou are asking.Are you ableto drinkthe cupthat I am aboutto drink?"They saidto Him, "We are able."
But Jesussaidto them, "You do not knowwhatyou are asking.Are you ableto drinkthe cupthat I drink,orto be baptizedwith the baptismwith whichI am baptized?"
"For everyonewho asks,receives;and he who seeks,finds;and to him who knocks,it will be opened.
"And not manydayslater,the youngersongatheredeverythingtogetherand went on a journeyinto a distantcountry,and therehe squanderedhis estatewith looseliving.
but whenthissonof yourscame,who has devouredyour wealthwith prostitutes,you killedthe fattenedcalffor him.'
Whatis the sourceof quarrelsand conflictsamongyou? Is not the sourceyour pleasuresthat wage warin your members?
and whateverwe askwe receivefrom Him, becausewe keepHis commandmentsand dothe things that are pleasingin His sight.
Thisis the confidencewhichwe havebeforeHim, that, ifwe askanythingaccordingto His will,He hearsus.
