"You feltsecurein your wickednessand said,Nooneseesme,' Your wisdomand your knowledge,they have deludedyou; For you have saidin your heart,I am, and thereis noonebesidesme.'
Woeto those whoare wisein their own eyesAnd cleverin their own sight!
Woeto those who deeplyhidetheir plansfrom the LORD,And whose deedsare [done] in a darkplace,And they say,"Whoseesus?" or "Whoknowsus?"
Professingto be wise,they became fools,
"Behold,the manwho would not makeGodhis refuge,But trustedin the abundanceof his riches[And] was strongin his [evil] desire."
Then He saidto me, "Sonof man,do you seewhatthe eldersof the houseof Israelare committingin the dark,eachmanin the roomof his carvedimages?For they say,The LORDdoes not seeus; the LORDhas forsakenthe land.'"
Noonesuesrighteouslyand noonepleadshonestly.They trustin confusionand speaklies;They conceivemischiefand bringforthiniquity.
For the wisdomof thisworldis foolishnessbeforeGod.For it is written,"[He is] THE ONE WHO CATCHESTHE WISEIN THEIR CRAFTINESS";
Then He saidto me, "The iniquityof the houseof Israeland Judahis very,verygreat,and the landis filledwith bloodand the cityis fullof perversion;for they say,'The LORDhas forsakenthe land,and the LORDdoes not see!'
"Can a manhidehimself in hidingplacesSo I do not seehim?" declaresthe LORD."Do I not fillthe heavensand the earth?"declaresthe LORD.
He feedson ashes;a deceivedhearthas turnedhim aside.And he cannotdeliverhimself,norsay,"Is there not a liein my righthand?"
Nomanhasauthorityto restrainthe windwith the wind,or authorityover the dayof death;and thereis nodischargein the timeof war,and evilwill not deliverthose whopracticeit.
They holdfastto themselves an evilpurpose;They talkof layingsnaressecretly;They say,"Whocan seethem?"
Becauseyou have said,"We have madea covenantwith death,And with Sheolwe have madea pact.The overwhelmingscourgewill not reachus whenit passesby, For we have madefalsehoodour refugeand we have concealedourselves with deception."
He saysto himself,"Godhas forgotten;He has hiddenHis face;He will neverseeit."
"Now,then, hearthis,you sensualone,Who dwellssecurely,Who saysin your heart,I am, and thereis noonebesidesme. I will not sitas a widow,Norknowlossof children.'
Thussaysthe LORD,"Let not a wisemanboastof his wisdom,and let not the mightymanboastof his might,let not a richmanboastof his riches;
Therefore,O king,may my advicebe pleasingto you: breakawaynow from your sinsby [doing] righteousnessand from your iniquitiesby showingmercyto [the] poor,in casethere may be a prolongingof your prosperity.'
Thisis the exultantcityWhich dwellssecurely,Who saysin her heart,"I am, and thereis noonebesidesme." Howshe has becomea desolation,A restingplacefor beasts!Everyonewho passesby her will hiss[And] wavehis hand[in contempt].
