"Throughyour servantsyou have reproachedthe Lord,And you have said,'With my manychariotsI cameup to the heightsof the mountains,To the remotestpartsof Lebanon;And I cutdownits tallcedars[and] its choicecypresses.And I will goto its highestpeak,its thickestforest.
Some[boast] in chariotsand somein horses,But we will boastin the nameof the LORD,our God.
"The enemysaid,'I will pursue,I will overtake,I will dividethe spoil;My desireshall be gratifiedagainst them; I will drawout my sword,my handwill destroythem.'
And He will destroythe gloryof his forestand of his fruitfulgarden,bothsouland body,And it will be as when a sickmanwastesaway.
Behold,the Lord,the GODof hosts,will lopoffthe boughswith a terriblecrash;Those also who are tallin staturewill be cutdownAnd those whoare loftywill be abased.
He will cutdownthe thicketsof the forestwith an iron[axe], And Lebanonwill fallby the MightyOne.
"Eventhe cypresstreesrejoiceover you, [and] the cedarsof Lebanon,[saying], 'Sinceyou were laidlow,no[tree] cuttercomesup againstus.'
Is it not yetjust a littlewhileBefore Lebanonwill be turnedinto a fertilefield,And the fertilefieldwill be consideredas a forest?
"Howthen can you repulseoneofficialof the leastof my master'sservantsand relyon Egyptfor chariotsand for horsemen?
Perhapsthe LORDyour Godwill hearthe wordsof Rabshakeh,whomhis masterthe kingof Assyriahas sentto reproachthe livingGod,and will rebukethe wordswhichthe LORDyour Godhas heard.Therefore, offera prayerfor the remnantthat is left.'"
For thussaysthe LORDconcerningthe houseof the kingof Judah:"You are [like] Gileadto Me, [Like] the summitof Lebanon;Yet mostassuredlyI will makeyou like a wilderness,[Like] citieswhich are not inhabited.
"For I will setapartdestroyersagainstyou, Eachwith his weapons;And they will cutdownyour choicestcedarsAnd throw[them] on the fire.
Egyptriseslike the Nile,Even like the riverswhose waterssurgeabout; And He has said,"I will riseand cover[that] land;I will surely destroythe cityand its inhabitants."
"Sonof man,setyour facetowardJerusalem,and speakagainstthe sanctuariesand prophesyagainstthe landof Israel;
"The kingreflectedand said,'Is thisnot Babylonthe great,whichI myselfhave builtas a royalresidenceby the mightof my powerand for the gloryof my majesty?'
