For at the voiceof the LORDAssyriawill be terrified,[When] He strikeswith the rod.
But as for those who turnasideto their crookedways,The LORDwill leadthem away with the doersof iniquity.Peacebe upon Israel.
So it will be that whenthe Lordhas completedallHis workon MountZionand on Jerusalem,[He will say], "I will punishthe fruitof the arrogantheartof the kingof Assyriaand the pompof his haughtiness."
Is the axeto boastitself overthe one who chopswith it? Is the sawto exaltitself overthe one who wieldsit? [That would be] like a clubwieldingthose who liftit, [Or] like a rodlifting[him who] is not wood.
Thereforethussaysthe LordGODof hosts,"O My peoplewho dwellin Zion,do not fearthe Assyrianwho strikesyou with the rodand liftsup his staffagainstyou, the wayEgypt[did].
The LORDof hostswill arousea scourgeagainsthim like the slaughterof Midianat the rockof Oreb;and His staffwill be overthe seaand He will liftit up the way[He did] in Egypt.
Woeto Assyria, the rodof My angerAnd the staffin whose handsis My indignation,
But with righteousnessHe will judgethe poor,And decidewith fairnessfor the afflictedof the earth; And He will strikethe earthwith the rodof His mouth,And with the breathof His lipsHe will slaythe wicked.
to breakAssyriain My land, and I will tramplehim on My mountains. Then his yokewill be removedfrom them and his burdenremovedfrom their shoulder.
Like the strikingof Him who has struckthem, has He struckthem? Orlike the slaughterof His slain, have they been slain?
And the LORDwill cause His voiceof authorityto be heard,And the descendingof His armto be seenin fierceanger,And [in] the flameof a consumingfireIn cloudburst, downpourand hailstones.
And the Assyrianwill fallby a swordnot of man,And a swordnot of manwill devourhim. So he will not escapethe sword,And his youngmenwill becomeforcedlaborers.
For You shall breakthe yokeof their burdenand the staffon their shoulders,The rodof their oppressor,as at the battleof Midian.
